Weight-Loss Always Thirsty?

Weight-Loss

I am drinking some serious water, often 1-1.5 gallons a day. Yet my thirst is simply unquenchable, I'm constanly thirsty, yet I can drink enough water to the point I have to go as often as I drink a bottle of water. What gives?

When's the last time that you went to a doctor for a check up?

Not to be overly dramatic... but one of the symptoms of diabetes is excessive thirst - other symptoms are feeling tired or ill, frequent urination, sudden weight loss, blurred vision, slow healing of infections, and genital itching.

Thirst concern

Hi. Just flicking thru and saw ur concern of over thirst and i am too. I am a nurse so we deal with it every day- i wld be going to ur GP (dr) and discuss with him. Diabetes is a real possibility and when caught early, treatment can be started and ur life can get bck to normal. It could be a couple of other things so i wld be going to him. Some tests do come back normal and can be a false negtive/positive. They still think i have diabetes (type 2- im 24) and im not that over weight (88kg) but my tests have been all over the place but the last one is normal. my thirst has faded thank god. i dont take medication and dont intend to until they prove it- but i wldnt advise that for others!! Yes a lil wrong but.... I joined Cohens Lifestyle Program and they do blood tests and it was normal so i think i am luckey. I have lost 4.7kg in just over a wk so i am pretty happy and think i have overted the diabetes rush.

So get to ur dr and ask for advice.

I would goto the dr ( general practioner, lol ) but I can't get insurance. All insurance companies have denied me because I lost weight.

insurance Issue

I am in Oz so that isnt an issue.

Is there som form of free medical health clinic available?? It wld seem pretty bad if there isnt. I guess we are lucky in Oz with the medicare system as we pay thru our taxes for medical care- there is private but u pay extra. There must be a way that u can access some form of medical service- how and what ???? I wish i could suggest more!

They wont insure you because you lost weight? What bullcrip is that??? Your healthier now!! They should want to insure you!!! >.<

Apparently not. Thats what I told them, but they are more concerned about the health risks of weight loss, than the benefits, believe it or not.

DeDe, there is medicare here, but the quality of the healthcare is generally poor quality. I have standards about who I want touching my body and medicating me. I won't goto a doctor that doesn't speak english as his/her primary language, or someone who could care less about my health and just herds patients through the system because they aren't earning enough money.

I have insurance and am hard pressed to find a doctor that
a. graduated from medical school in the usa
b. Speaks english as a first language
c. speaks enough English to actually care about what i'm saying
d. Is a real doctor, my latest round of goig to the doctor had me seeing a Physicians assistant... who was following a list of things she had to do - and i never got to see a doctor even though i asked twice...

Yeah, its sad. My last couple insurance companies, I had to go through an entire catalog of doctors in their network just to find one or two choices of a doctor that has an american name, like 'David Smith' for ex.

I had the same issue with life insurance and income protection, every thing was fine as a fat bugger (123kg) but I desided to loose weight when I got to 100kg some one advised me that I might be able to geta discount (or reduction in the loading) so I contacted the companty and told htem I had recently lost 20+ kg, boy didnt that open up a pandorus box 2 full medicles ecg's the whole bit, then I got told good job, once you have kept the weight off for 12 months we can talk reduction, pft I tell ya you cant win

What's wrong with overseas doctors? I think you'll find most of them are better than the ones we've got here....if we had any...

I've found that since drinking lots of water i've actually become MORE thirsty throughout the day, maybe it could just be that when our body is properly hydrated we correctly recognise when we are thirsty (if you know what i mean?)

Like before i was dieting i was constantly hungry and i think i was mistaking thirst for hunger, so now instead of wanting to nibble all day i need to drink (which is faaaar better LOL :D )

I didn't say there was anything wrong with them. I am picky about who I want giving me medical treatment, and one of my personal requirements is that the physician speak english as their primary language. I don't like discussing serious matters with people that have such a heavy accent that I can't clearly understand it, and who knows how well they understand me.

Doctors

I think its gr8 u are concerned about who treats ur body (i am also) but if u were in a medical emergency i doubt u would be questioning them this fiercly. I am a nurse and i know there is so many drs that have big difficulties with language barriers and it is an issue: if ur going to work in a country that has majority of people that speak english as a 1st language. I guess being in Oz i guess we do have choices and dont need insurance like in teh US or wherever u r from (im not sure whether US or other country). I think if u were to look around and maybe give someone a chance to help you, you might even be suprised. I have come to realise even though their name might not sound english like u said, they may speak very gd english and actually know more in the field u require then one who is clearly english speaking white male/female. Looks r decieving but if u want to get the help, u need to be a little lenient on this. I understand u 100% dont get me wrong as i work with the immigrant drs in places like emergency and ICU and trust me , it is frustrating but dammmm , they r gd drs. Its up to u i guess.
