Always Hungry

I know that hunger has it's purpose and usually I'd think that it's a sensation to be acted upon...in a sensible manner. I'm pretty good about that. But I have the problem of always being physically hungry. I used to be horrible at separating physical hunger from emotional eating but I am at the point where I understand what it means to feel that physical hunger. Unfortunately...I find that I'm feeling that hunger very often. It's not that I feel starving all of the time, but within fifteen or twenty minutes of me eating say a serving of oatmeal, I'm just as hungry again! I've tried drinking water and doing other things to distract myself from it, but I find that I look at the clock and think to myself..."Wow..I still have a few hours before I plan to eat again."

I'm not on a diet where my calories are too restricted, and I'm rather small (5'1) as it is. I naturally am pretty muscular (I'm unsure of my bodyfat percentage or anything like that...)...

So I guess what I'm really trying to ask is, should I be acting on this hunger? While I don't want to eat too little...I don't want to over-eat either. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You can plan little healthy snacks for grazing. I pack little containers of raisins, or carrott sticks, or oyster crackers, or 10-15 almonds, or popcorn, or rice cake, or rye vita cracker, or apple... that I can have at mid-points throughout the day. Since I include them in my daily calorie intake, it is not eating insensibly. If I don't get to them during a normal snack time (because of a meeting or something) then I'll throw them in with lunch or just save them til the next day. It really, really helps me to graze rather than eat big giant meals. Keeps me from being hungry.

Also, a cup of hot tea - I use green tea - at around three - with no milk and sugar - seems to help me as well.

If you don't put sweeteners in your coffee or tea, it seems to help as well. I think sweeteners make me hungrier.

I know the feeling of being hungry! It's so haaaaaard! And when you're always hungry it's easier to eat something you shouldn't.
The happy news is that it usually doesn't last forever... you finally get full on the small amount you eat.

I hate feeling hungry! If you really do feel hungry then maybe increase the amount of carbs you eat at meal times. Other than that I would say take snacks with you. Something healthy though. Have you ever tried Nairns Mixed berry oatcakes dipped in natural probiotic yoghurt? It's lovely, you should try it!
