Sport already frustrated

Sport Fitness
So I have only been doing these workouts/dieting for a little over a week now, and I check my weight on saturdays so today was my first check. instead of 124, im now 125! Now I realize that I wasnt going to be losing 10lbs in a week but I was hoping for 1-3lbs lighter because ive cut out a lot of bad foods and been eating healthy and would assume there would be some weight loss when I have changed my diet by a lot! Plus I have been working out everyday, with only one break day so far. Im trying to think positive and assume I just need another week or so to see any results but it still frustrates me that I gained a lb. I have felt better lately which is defintely a good thing and probably one of the only things that will keep me motivated to continue. Whether or not the scale shows it, I know I am being a lot healthier. I wish I could cook my own food, but Im stuck in this dorm with very limited meal choices. Im also guessing that the gained lb is not muscle yet, but I would like to think it was ha! Anyway, let me know what you think. thanks!

Sorry, probably should have put this under weight loss.

Its only been a week.

the gain can be because you weighed yourself after a meal, or you're more hydrated, etc... most home scales are not terribly accurate, so a 1 lb gain is really nothing to get frusterated about.

I guess, but i didnt eat or drink before i weighed myself today. oh well im getting over the fact that i may have gained a lb lol its just that with past things ive tried, if i didnt get results i liked after a week or 2 i stopped them. (which was a good thing because i was taking pills) but in this case, not such a good thing to quit, which i wont.

Don't get down over a single pound difference, there are far too many factors to contend with to let a number like that be a real indication of your progress.

Examples...Every scale only has to be accurate to a certain degree, i've heard of fluctuations of 1-4 pounds just from stepping on, off, and on again. As many have said, taking in more salt, slight digestive back ups, and the like can cause retention of water etc for more than a pound :) Plus your body might be taking a little time to adjust to a new diet/workout routine.

As long as you have your diet and exercise in check, its as good as a sure bet to have it work ^^

When I 1st started seriously working out and watching my diet last year, it was probly 4 to 6 weeks before I saw any real pounds lost on the scales. As a matter of fact, I had to train myself to only step on the scale weekly instead of daily so I didn't get demotivated. The 1st results I got were actually not measurable on any device as what I noticed 1st was an increase in self-esteem, energy levels, and desire to be social. After that I started slowly shaving pounds off, and around the 3 month mark I started getting comments from friends and family - despite the fact that I could not tell any real difference in my body composition myself. Your body takes time to adapt. Think about how long it took you to get into the shape you are currently in, you didn't put on those 15 pounds you want to lose in a week did you? I bet not. Takes time to do, also takes time to undo. Stick with it and you'll get there, promise.

P.S. you may have gained some muscle weight as well

Most of the time, when you first start out, your body will put on muscle faster than it burns fat. Often times, this can last up to a month or two before you really start to notice a weight loss.

The best way to tell if you are losing fat is by the way your clothes fit.

It sucks doesnt' it? I did the same thing. Eventually, I started to drop. Now I fear I have hit a plateau and I have to work harder to see the results. IT bites, but if you want it bad enough, you will get there.:D

i am having the same problem...i just started lifting and i feel better at times but then i hop on the scale and it's like i gained 2-3 lbs! is this normal? Also, i started a new multi vitamin from GNC...is anyone taking their womans active multi vitamin?

You're probably close to you goal weight so it's going to be harder to take any more off. Just keep at it... (I'm thinking that since you started filling your body with nutritious food it decided that it was gonna store a lot of it just in case you decided to change your mind lol).

If I eat too much salt on Monday, I'm at least a pound or two heavier on Tuesday due to water retention caused by the increased sodium levels.

Muscle does weigh more than fat. How are your clothes fitting?

When I lost the 32 lbs, I didn't weight myself.............it was a lifestyle change, not a diet per se.

I can also add to that!
I too, started gaining pounds on the scale after I started working out, but I know it is muscle. My legs and arms are muscular and toned, also my butt.
Keep up the good work girl! Stay motivated and think positive, it will happen.
