Ali's Diary

I'm abit slow off the mark! I've been eating healthy since August 22 and a member of this forum for a couple weeks and I'm only just getting around to starting a diary now  . Better late than never, huh?
Ok here goes. :)
My starting weight was 122.5 kilograms (269 lbs) in August
My current weight is 116.3 kilograms
My goal weight is around 65-70 kilograms (143 - 154 lbs) but the number on the dial doesn't matter as much as being able to walk into any store and fitting comfortably into a size 12.
Mathematically, if I lose about 1 kilgram a week it will probably take me approx. 13 months to lose 60 kilograms.
So far I've lost 6.2 kilograms by eating low fat, portion control and counting kilojoules/calories. I've also started to exercise. Something I avoided whenever possible!!!!
My sister is also losing weight so we are able to support eachother and of course this forum.
I will reach my goal no matter what. I'm tired of being an old woman at 34yrs that didn't do anything except work and sit around letting life pass me by. No more. I am going to participate in life, not watch it from the sidelines :D

Hey Ali!
Glad you started a diary!.....I see that your birthday is feb 13, mine is the 11th....also both my brother and sister are RNs...and my sister in law is about to graduate from nursing school this november!!......So I know how hard your job is......doing all the doctors work and him getting payed for it...lol

Im so happy to hear about your weight loss!!..and your time frame of losing your weight is a sure hit in keeping it off!!!!

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement kc :) . As a whole I love my job but there are some very big down sides such as shift work especially night shift! I am on night shift tonight and in the past I, like many other nurses, would eat to keep awake. Not great for the metabolism eating high fat convenience foods in the middle of the night!
On my new healthy eating plan, I find that the days I have night shift I try to eat very little during the day to 'save up' food that I can eat at night  . The other shifts are fine as I plan my meals and get organised in advance. Is anyone else a shift worker? How do you manage healthy eating especially on night shifts? I'd be greatful for any tips/hints :)

Wecome to the forum Ali!
I hope the best of luck to you and your journey.... It's a long one but we will all make it there with the help of each other!
I dont work, so I cant help you on the shift department, but I'm sure there may be someone who can!

Grrrrr.. a bad couple of days. I've been stuck at the computer doing a paper for College and I get soooo bored that all I want to do is nibble. I suppose in a way it wasn't too bad because what I did nibble on I weighed out and allocated the calories to my "Calorie Bank". But because I had those extra snacks I couldn't have anything much else. Oh well the paper is nearly over just in time for the club challenge! My sister and I bought bikes a couple of days ago but I haven't had the time to go out on it yet between going to work and this assignment :( Tomorrow is alsways a new day and I promise I will do more exercise and lose as much as I can for Group 3.
Go Group 3!!!!!!!

How is the paper going? Instead of nibbling on bad things at the computer.....try celery, cukes, beans, carrots, etc. Have you ridden your bike yet? Keep us informed! Let us help.

I know how busy it gets going to college. My best friend is in her second year, and we never see each other. either she has a paper due, or I have to work at 5am the next day and so on... it just sucks. then in a couple years when she graduates we'll be having damn kids, and still no time for us!!

Honeybee,
I hear ya! I'm in the having kid stage and you are so right... no time for us! The time I do use for myself (like right now as the kiddos are hooked up to Sesame Street) just leaves me feeling guilty. I find myself fantasizing about my gray-hair days... maybe then, "sigh".
Keep posting the food intake! Keeping you honest!

I'm here, I'm here! I've been posting and updating in the thread "Group 3 here we go". Everything is going well except for the weather (pouring rain) has put a dampener on the bike riding and walking. Eating plan still going well. College paper is done and out of the way so I don't need to nibble anymore. It must be a habit from my University days when my eating was out of control and I did literally eat to get through doing the assignments. One more paper to go then finished 4ever! :) I keep having to resist weighing myself every time I walk past the scales at work. Not good! Keep hanging in there Group 3 and I'll make sure I post more often in both threads ;)

Thought I would attach a "Before" pic in my diary. This was taken in March '04 and I'm probably back to that weight now after ballooning abit more over the year. Will try to get a more recent pic too. The kitten is my baby Ava.

Go, Ali, go!
Glad you are back and doing well!!!
Great thought about taking before pics. I've taken pics and saved things (my number card from a walkathon) to ut in my weight loss scrapbook. This has been to big of change to not track it!
