Sport Alcohol Slows Muscle Growth?

Sport Fitness
I was wondering if drinking has been affecting my muscle gains. I've had a lot of trouble gaining muscle since I started working out in February (8 months), and I was wondering if alcohol plays a role. I usually drink a couple of beers most days of the week, and a ton of beer/whiskey on the weekends. I also take 1/2-1 scoop NO Xplode before I exercise (2-5 times per week).

I know that it is supposedly bad for your liver and kidneys to drink on NO, but does this slow down muscle growth? I've gained about 10 lbs since February, but I don't feel like I've been progressing significantly in the past 3 or 4 months (since I started drinking more due to Summertime), and I often just burn away my muscles if I don't eat massive amounts of food all the time. Right now I'm 21 yo, 190 lbs, 6'3".

If I cut back my drinking will I gain more muscle? And if so, would I have to eat a lot more food to make up for the calories?

You know that it is "supposedly bad" for your kidneys and liver to drink alcohol while on NO? How about that it DEFINITELY IS BAD even if you're not on NO?!? (which, by the way, doesn't really do anything so you should drop that).

Moderation in the form of 1-2 drinks per day is fine. Passed that, you're doing bad things to your body. Hindering your muscle gains should be the least of your worries here, so you need to get your priorities straight. But yes, it will absolutely effect gaining muscle. Alcohol in excess is a toxin to the body. All other processes except for attempting to remove it slow down.

haha, seriously though, I do enjoy a few cold ones on the weekend, then the next day I feel guilty as hell. I shouldnt, but I do. Then I try and run more on monday to make up for it. lol :)

Yeah well something like is no big deal. OP is a different story. Be careful with that cycle you got goin on there though. Just moderate :)

Of course alcohol would affect muscle growth. Apart from it being alcohol, it is carbohydrates. So say if you've had a good day diet wise and then you drink beer, well the body will need to work off the beer first.

You must have done a Google search and weren't happy with the answers. Well it is reality. Here they are...

Yes, alcohol has a bad effect on protein synthesis, and metabolism. Not to mention the empty calories.

In moderation it shouldn't screw up all progress...however you say "I drink a ton of beer and whiskey on the weekends"...that there is the problem.

Set yourself a goal of moderation, and see if you don't make better strength gains, and likely shed a little fat due to the lowered calorie intake.

Thanks for the advice. I was definitely hoping that the answer would be no, but I'm going to try to stop drinking during the week, and hopefully be able to curb my drinking on the weekend.

I think NO Xplode is great for energy though. I'm gonna try to stop using it for a few weeks though just so I can detox a little bit.

I don't think NO has any energy effects. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
