Age difference - What's acceptable?

Starting a few days ago I've started hanging out with a girl named Brooke, shes 17, I'm 21.

Talk about a great girl! :biggrinsanta:
Shes funny, very cute, nice body, plus I can talk to her for days on end without getting annoyed. Most girls, after talking to them for a hour or so, I'll get bored. I wanna date this girl!!

Her family is Mormon, I'm a jack-Mormon(I'll go to church....then go hit the bars :pain7:), they know me pretty well and like me. So I don't think her parents would disprove....but would society? I wouldn't do anything illegal with her. No drinking or anything like that.

Is that 4 year difference socially acceptable?

The rule is as follows:
your age divided by 2 + 7 and you got the age you can go out with.
I'm sorry, but you have to be 20 to go out with this girl :(

Seriously, though, it's your choice. If 18 is the legal age in your country to have sex then you could get into trouble.

My personal opinion is that she's a bit young. I can't picture myself (I'm 21 aswell) go out with someone who's 17.. they would be in high school. But then again, maybe this girl is very mature for her age.

Who cares about socially acceptable "if there's grass on the wicket, lets play cricket!" ;)

Other factors to always consider are:
How old did she say she was?
How old did she look?
How good is your lawyer?

And if all those things fail, take the Akon route and blame her dad for not keeping her on a lead until she was legal, hahaha

I say its fine. I was 20 when I met my wife, who was 16 (although her profile said she was 18).

In Nebraska, this is legal. :)

Nothing is "socially acceptable" if you must know. You could be doing everything right and someone still would say something.

If the parents approve, and you guys are cool, then go for it! The only problem is depending on where you live, the parents or even the girl could claim statutory rape, which is a pretty serious offense.

She is legal. 16 is the age of consent in New Mexico.
Her parents are cool with it.

As for her maturity level...Its about the same as other 17 year olds. But I'm not the most mature 21 year old out there, so it's not really a problem.

Like the guy said

Grass on the field, play ball

HOWEVER,

"If there isn't grass on the field, flip her over and play in the mud!"

A motto to live by : "Old enough to pee, old enough for me."

That philosophy got Roman Polanski in a lot of trouble

I don't want to sound like a jerk here, but if it's legal then why do you ask if it's acceptable? I mean 21 and 17 are pretty young, and about right in age difference. Of course, there is a clear "gross line" where you know the relationship is based on something else. Like if a 20 year old married an 87 year old man who is rich, and no wife. Or like like 40 year old marrying a 20 year old who is obviously in it for sex.

So as long as you're not crossing that "gross line" I think you're safe as far as being socially acceptable.

There's no problem with that as long as you don't make fool of her or cheat her. You can have as many women as you like but remember to not get caught. Men will always be men and there is nothing you can change.Don't listen to what other people will say just mind yourself before anything else.

If you can get along with her great and you're both fine with it and family approve, then I wouldn't worry about it. If I were single, I personally wouldn't be inclined to date a 17-year-old and I'm 21, but that's not a concern of social acceptability, it's a matter of being able to see eye-to-eye. My ex was 3 years younger than me, and while in 3 years time, 3 years won't be a big difference, at 19/20 (her being 16/17), it was a lifetime of difference.
