Currently I'm working out on the eliptical 40 min 5 days a week. I also do weight with my upper/lower body on alternating days. Should I increase my cardio to an hour a day or work out 6 days a week??? Thanks.:)

This is just IMHO I am by no means an expert. But when I told my doctor that I was working out on the Elliptical 20 minutes a day he told me to increase it to an hour. However, I have had the most success losing weight when I increased how much I was lifting when I do my weight training. Doing 3 sets of each exercise with weight heavy enough to have failure at about 8 reps.Remember the more muscle you build the faster your metabolism will be and that equals weight loss. :)

Is there some reason " working out on the eliptical 40 min 5 days a week " is leaving you dissatisfied ?

In other words, " why " do you want to bump cardio up to an hour ? What are your fitness goals ?

If it were me in your place, I'd probably stick with the same time, but attempt to increase my speed or resistance on the elliptical during those 40 min. Do what works for you though. If increasing speed or resistance isn't an option for even little bursts on the elliptical, then I guess I'd increase time.

No problem with what you suggested. Just what your doc did...For the record, seldom ever take nutritional or work out advise from a doc.

20 minutes at a high intensity is far "better" then an hour at a slow pace.
