advice needed

hi

i served in the forces for 8 years and i was super fit due to pushing myself to the limits constantly both mentally and physically. I was a boxing champion in the forces also. 13 years ago i left the forces and now i am a supermarket refrigeration engineer which does take up a lot of my time plus i have a family etc.

i want to get fit again i hate what i have become physically and have always said i would do something about it and never have my main concern has been bringing in the money.

i don't want to jump straight in and cause myself an injury i am 37 years old now and my time in the forces and my job have paid there toll on my knees.

i know the best an quickest way to get some weight off and increase my stamina is to get outside and do some roadwork but i am considering starting on a bike first. i don't want to cause an injury and be put back from doing this.

would this be a good idea or should i jump straight in ?

also i am seeking advice on other stuff i could do like i say its been 13 years since i pushed myself i have nobody to do it with also so i need to regain the mental strength to push myself also.:D

Biking is a terrific way to start getting back into things. It's low impact and, even though it burns fewer calories per minute than running, you can cycle for quite a lot longer than you can run.

You might also want to join a gym. Resistance training is just as important as working on your cardio.

hi

thanks for the reply Jrahien i am also considering once i get back into things is tabbing with weight on my back.

i used to do alot of this in the army if i start out with 15 1bs in a bergan i used to do 15 to 25 mile with 551b years ago but i would have no chance of this now.
with tabbing its a mixture i fast pace walking and running, especially good in the hills running on the straights and fast pace walking up the hills.
may be getting ahead of myself but this is what i want to aim towards doing.

I agree start off with a low impact exercise, that's what I did several months ago I'm now running on the regular 3-4x a week and can see a significant change.

Since you have been detached from all sorts of exercise i think that all you need to do is start slowly instead of rigorously in order to getting quick result. It may affect negatively on your health.

You are right. Start with bike or if possible start with jogging in outside. Keep it up for couple of month. You would become used to with your new routine. Then try to follow an advanced routine after that.

After one or two month you would start jump with full energy but not before that. Before riding on the bike drink lots of water. It would supply enough water to all the parts of your muscle. More importantly it would help you to take overall control over your breathing.

If possible stretch your muscle. Stretching is very important before biking. It would lose your muscle and you would not feel pain while biking.
