Acne

I'm just wondering about acne. Well I'm 18 years old and I have never really had a problem with it. But my friend is the same age and we basically went through everything together as teenageres and she still suffers from bad acne.- today. I'm just wondering does anyone know the cause of it? I know it's got alot to do with hormones and that but we basically knew each other real well and yeah.

Anyone know?

Thanks
Eleanor

genetics ... it's in your genes, and for most people there is little they can do besides keeping their face clean and not picking at it. Seeing a specialist will often curb it a bit, but for solid results, you must take some of the heavy drugs with some pretty heavy side-effects during the whole process (ie. huge mood swings, no exposure to sun w/out frying) ... the cycle for these types of drugs is usually about 4-6 months (i think), but are extremely effective and is a long term solution.

ACNE is an eruptive skin disease primarily due to the disorder flow of oil glands through the tiny ducts of the skin, which results to the plugging of sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells with dust and dirt.

visit this website. it will be a great help.

What I found really helped my skin was going on the pill. I was on dianette, and when I picked up my prescription they would ask why it was prescribed (we get free contraceptives in the UK), because a lot of the time it was purely prescribed as a treatment for acne (and I would have had to pay). The reason it works is because it is female hormones, and it is the male testosterone that makes you more oily and prone to spots. And low and behold, when I came off the pill and started trying to conceive, my acne came back.

Hope this helps.:)

I should go on birth control. I have horrible acne on my face. my shoulders seem to have cleared up. Also if I am going to get involved in a social life... I might aswell have it as a safety.

I agree.

Which reminds me.. need to find myself a new doctor. o.o Not sure how to go about doing that though.

I am 27 yrs old and i face acne problems as well and still tryin to find a way to fight that am willing to get any advice if ya got any throw it my way

Hi Black Rose. Apart from what I have written above, now that I am off contraceptives, I put on a topical antibiotic, and this does work. It doesn't get rid of it 100%, unless I am very healthy with my eating and drink plenty of water, but when I wasn't using it I would be really healthy and still break out. It might be worth asking the doctor about lotions?

I am also a sufferer of adult acne (im 24) and am suprised i got it now - never had it til i went to uni and was stressed. I have tried 1000's of things and my advice (i am a nurse also) is if ur worried or having issues with clearing the problem- see ur GP and discuss with them ur feelings and see what is available to u. I bit the bullet and went to them, got refered to a dermatologist (skin specialist) and was given topical product. For me, i am sooo sensitive in products and i reacted badly however, it did start the process of healing and despite stopping the product, i had the advantage of this happening. There is another process i could take (oral medication) which again, only available from the specialist (roaccutane) however, it is extremly strong and with my allergies, well, im not sure its going to be a gd road to take but....... will decide if i get worse. It is also a drug that requires NO PREGNANCY (they test u before) and up to a few months after as its still in ur body for up to 6mths and can be detrimental to unborn baby!!!!!! Its also a 21+ wk course and may require a second course but it is a permenant solution to it supposidly.

If u have the uneasy feelings of ur acne and are getting down, get off to see ur doc and discuss ur options. If ur not on any concessions, medication and appointments can get expensive however, it is worth it in the long run. U can see a dermatologist thru the public system but the wait can often be lengthy (3mths or more depending on how ur referal is written and how severe ur case is) so if u can possibly go private, i recommend it! In SA my gap was like $45 but u pay all upfront. With a concession, it makes it like 10-20.

Hope this info helped. I use Nuetragena (spelling is bad)-suggested by the specialist) just off the supermarket shelf to wash and a oil free moituriser (also Neutragena). Nothing fancy.

All the best and happy skin forever!

Yeah, I'm 21 and still break out, but as much of it was my own fault as it was my hormones/genes. Picking, scratching, or popping acne just irritates your skin, or even pushes the bacteria further under your skin, and makes it worse! Not to mention the fact that people rarely have perfectly clean hands all day, and if you just touch your face a lot in general, you're probably tracking dirt and such all over your skin. I've only just recently been able to start training myself to stop doing it, though I still have a hard time with it.

Aside from seeing a specialist, there are some products you can try - right now I use OXY pads, because I have really oily skin, but it will dry you right out if you don't. I used to use Proactiv (no 'e' on the end), which was a great system and worked well, but its very involved - a 10-15 minute routine first thing in the morning and before going to bed, on top of all my other regular routines just got to be too much to maintain. It was also kind of expensive, $50 for a 3 month supply if I recall correctly.

with skin that breaks out, you want to stay away from those super rough cleansers, especially the ones with the apricot pits inthem.. it will just make it worse... you really want to treat your skin super gently... no rough cleansers or astringents...

and you're never too young.. moisturize moisturize moisturize... even at my age, with very dry skin, I still use an oil free moisturizer...

it's a little pricey, but check out clinique's skincare line... it's gentle on the skin and it's products all work together...

and if you go out in the sun, make sure your moisuturizer has an SPF of at least 15... my mother always said tha the sun was good for clearing up breakouts, I've read many things to the contrary...

wish i had some good advice for your friend, but all i can say is it WILL go away eventually. i had bad, bad acne from 14 to 25. then it finally went away on its own. i tried everything from harsh astringents to gentle cleansers and both topical and oral antibiotics. turns out i just had to be patient. now my skin is great - and i never thought i'd be able to say that.

Clinique

I used Clinique for a lil while and after about a month, my skin reacted badly and when i got to the dermatologist, he said Clinique isnt a gd idea for acne prone skin- too many chemicals, soaps or something like this. He preffered they use something gentle like Neutragenia products. Since then, i have noticed an improvement in skin ten fold. I have broken out with this detox and weight loss diet but its settling down slowly. I have trouple clearing pores but apart from that, its getting better slowly. I guess i have tried to stop touching it. And lots of water- 2-4lt a day!!!!!!! WOrking well for me.

Good luck and be patient (too hard sometimes)- dont pick and leave alone. Time heals everything!

I thought apricort scrub was good for the face.

Also.. this is weird.. but my mother has to wear foundation all the time or she breaks out.. whats up with that?

Is it an oil absorbing one, or one with Salic (spelling?) Acid in it? Does she have a problem with her skin being too dry or too greasy?

Colloidal Silver

Wel, i have found a miricle for mine and it is Colloidal Silver. It is a clear liquid made from pure silver. It is stored in cool dark spot and held in a dark plastic or glass bottle. Must not have a metal lid or any metal attatchments whatsoever or it deactivates the silver ions. There is loads of info on the net and it can also be used as a antibacterial internally or externally. U can mix it with water (filtered water is gd) and drink or straight onto skin 3x day. Usually a table spoon in glass water. Wash face and acne affected area with gentle cleanser (not harsh soap) and dry. Place onto cotton pad or cotton ball until almost soaked (not quiet to dripping) and wipe over. I use it at night in the morning. I dont need a moituriser with it. I try not to use make up but obviously there are times we do, so i use only when i require. When at home or just ducking to the store i dont bother (sometimes i do :) )

A friend of a friend makes this so i get it free however u can buy this stuff in health food stores and possibly chemists but im not sure on this one. I think its like $AUD 20-30 for like 500ml (?). if u just using it on skin, it wld last ages. U can buy kits on teh net for like $AUD 200 for a small lab kit so cheap really when u can make like 1000's of batches (200- 750ml and even more at once). If it works u will be benefited not just the acne but overall health. It has for me. BUT DO NOT USE METAL SPOONS AND STUFF TO MIX UR DRINK as it will disturb the silver and kind of deactivate (somehting like this). Use plastic spoons.

I hope someone tries this and gets the results. It is to heal scarring also so im in that faise. I think this will occur due to the results so far!! Wow was my reaction.

I put mosturizer on my face, then I put toothpaste all over my face.. no joke.. I honestly do, and in the morning my face isn't all oily.. I know it sounds odd but it works for me!
