I noticed at the weekend that my achilles tendon was a bit swollen so, thought I should get it checked out and ease off the running (I usually do about 25-30 miles a week)
Went to the Dr who referred me to a physio and it has been confirmed as achilles tendonitis (no surprises there). He said it looked like I had been running on it for a while without noticing and it was mostly scar tissue. He gave me a soft tissue massage to break down some of the scar tissue which has made it quite sore.
My problem is that I have a 10k race this Sunday which runs round quite a hilly course (not good for achilles). The physio has said I'll be fine to run and, I know I should trust him as he had a pretty good feel of it whilst massaging (I should mention he is a sports physio so probably knows what he is talking about!)
I've eased off the mileage this week and have been doing a lot of stretches but, I find I've lost confidence in my ankle and I feel paranoid that I'm going to make things worse!
I plan to take it quite easy on Sunday as i'm only competing against myself (I'm not exactly a contender to win!!) My question is, should I strap it up or should I leave it unstrapped? I'm concerned that if I restrict its movement, I could end up doing more harm than good. I'm not seeing the physio again until next week so, can't ask him unfortunately.
Oh, and sorry for the rambling post....I tend to waffle!!
