Please list any ideas that you guys would like to try for future bonuses.

They could be anything that you have ever wanted to try - taking more vitamins, eating more fiber, eating more veggies, walking the dog - anything, that you haven't stuck to.

Be creative!

Um, I struggle w/ getting in even 3 servings of fruits and veggies everday, that would be a good challenge for me!

Claudia - this was posted in the other thread. Basically - be sure to drink your water each day starting today.

1st Week Bonus - WATER!! :drool5:

This week - starting Sunday (5/25) - your first challenge is to drink water! Sound easy? There's a catch!

You must drink "half of your weight" in ounces EACH DAY through Friday.

Here's what I will have to drink daily this week:

204 lbs./2 = 102 oz. water per day.

Make sure you post every day and let your team know if you have accomplished the bonus for the day! (This is a daily bonus - so you must complete your total number of ounces EACH DAY - no catching up the rest of the week if you don't hit it one day.)

Drink up!!

I think we should have a bonus where we cut out one food that is unhealthy that we have trouble avoiding. For example, I would have to cut out pasta and avoid eating it for the week.

That presumes that we are still eating unhealthy stuff. Everything is comparitive - but even the nearest thing that I have to junk food is pretty healthy really compared to most things that I used to eat (it is wholewheat with lots of vitamins).

It is difficult to claim that you are avoiding something that you havent had for months.

I have an idea.... These challenges very much depend on where each person is at, so why not have an option of 3 different challenges a week? You only get to pick one to do for points. (You could do the others for your well-being you know!)

This might solve the issue Omega highlighted...?

i would like to see a walking challenge how many miles can you do in one week!

ummm... maybe a week of bonus strength training/or stretching exercises... i know i like to occasionally tryout routines they offer from different magazines websites

Ex:

this little workout is simple enough that everyone should be able to handle it... it also gives everyone a chance to maybe try something new while earning bonus points!!!

I like fiber and sodium as challeneges...maybe one that involves do one exercise we enjoy more, like fititng it in, I know I love yoga and would love to do more of it but i have a really hard time prioritizing it and getting it in...different fruits or veggies to try to get us outta our comfort zone...I also like exercise bonuses in general - like so many points for doing extra exercise besides the 180 mins a week...a sleep bonus is always good too but, I wont be able to excell in that as I work nights...but I do have 3 days off...depends on how you set that one up...how about so many hours with out tv and being active outside or doing other things...no junk food of any kind is good too...(just cuz Margaret always eats well and has no junk doesnt mean that others dont, which i think is why some of us are here...me anyway, I have more twiking to do)Setting a personal goal for ourselves would be kinda cool as well

I really like the idea of having two choices...

I can go along with and do "no junk food". In fact I would find it difficult this weekend because we go away for a weekend to my home town every couple of months. We are doing that this weekend - and will be eating at the homes of friends a lot and I believe in eating what I am given on such occasions. It is so rare - that the odd splurge is not going to have a major impact on my project over the long term.

I can assure you that I am here because I have a healthy appetite and like fattening food as much as the next person (if not more!). It is pretty impossible to get up to 294 pounds and stay there if that is not the case.

The fact is that I have pretty much taken control over my food and am holding it well. My last proper binge as such was in September - and now the nearest thing that I come to it is having too much cereal in a less than controlled manner. For me - like most other formerly very large people here - it is one day at a time.

The fact is that I would feel that I was cheating to say that I had cut something of my own choice one week that I was having trouble avoiding - if I havent had it in ages. I often fancy eating things - especially when I see my husband eat things that I love.

I guess the bonuses are tricky because what's taking one person out of their comfort zone is just a normal day to someone else. For example, I tend to drink a lot of green tea and 2 ounces of juice mixed in 10 ounces of water, so I get a lot of water but its flavored a bit and I dont count how much I'm consuming. So this week's water challenge is taking me out of that comfort zone and requiring me to drink plain water and monitor my intake. Luckily for my weight I only need 72 ounces (just over 2 liters). Yet others participating in the game already drink the alloted water so this is nothing new or challenging for them. I'm sure there will be weeks where I already do the bonus, but for most others it will be a challenge. Its hard to please everyone in a challenge like this so maybe picking the bonuses out of a hat would work?? Regardless its all in good fun!

:) I hear ya Magaret - you are so focused and disaplined though - even at my best I still snack on junk...I just incorporate it into my plan usually...:)Eating healthy all the time I just cant do consistantly and I believe in morderation plus exercise as much as I do so I can eat more how I want...Im not horribly bad but I do like to indulge...Which I need to realize conteracts my progress and prob why i get no where:)..LOL

Claudia - One thing is for sure - drinking green tea would take me so far out of my comfort zone that I just would not do it. I do not drink any form of tea and am not going to start now.

We are all so different!

Cerella - the thing that I think that we need to remind ourselves is that skinny people like to indulge themselves and can eat unhealthily. We should congratulate ourselves on eating healthily for the most part. If we can eat all our nutrients and still have enough calories / points / syns or whatever left over to incorporate a little indulgence into the plan - we should go ahead and enjoy them without guilt. It is after all not really good for us to lose weight too quickly either.

For the most part - I am disciplined (although I do have my areas of weakness) - but I predict that my food log for this Friday and Saturday will make some interesting reading (if I can only remember to itemise all the indulgences that I know that I will have).

Margaret - ya I do agree - I eat healthy and balanced for the most part but still have room to indulge, I jhust dont really loose which sucks , eventually I will go to the doc cuz it is getting tiredsome - I still have so much weight to looose...I re-joined weight watchers for 16 weeks - I wanna try hard to looose 15 - 20 lbs by then...

Cerella - I honestly think that a lot of big people that want to lose weight do not indulge themselves any more than a lot of skinny people. The problem is that we feel more guilty about the indulgences. Also - we know that other people out there see us and think - "no wonder so and so is fat - look at that fattening thing she is eating". The maddening thing is that our day's calories may well add up to less than theirs! People dont notice things like that!

Stick at it and keep on exercising. The food control and exercise ought to bring results. If it doesnt - you really need to speak to the doctor and find out if you should be on some medication to even up the playing field. Our bodies can work against us - and we need to get them checked out.

I am really pleased that I joined Weight Watchers two weeks ago. They seem to be really nice and really helpful. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to help me.

I am really enjoying eating lots of sugar free jelly at the minute. It has no points and is nice and sweet.

So this week's water challenge is taking me out of that comfort zone and requiring me to drink plain water and monitor my intake.

Reading that, I'd say the bonuses are tricky because of interpretation! I tend to drink my water with lemon juice, because even filtered, our water at home and work tends to taste bad. I don't count the tablespoon or so of lemon juice that goes in my 32oz bottle as water, but I never considered that the lemon might make the water not count.

I agree completely about how hard it is to please everyone with the bonuses. If I were running a challenge, I'd probably do a choose-your-own-adventure bonus. Pick something that a) is outside your comfort zone and b) advances your overall weight/fitness/health goals. Post what your self-created challenge is, how it advances your goals, and why you haven't been doing it before. At the end of the week, report back on your experience.
