Abs

Hey, I'm a cross country runner, and i still work my arms and abs for the upper body, but i dont go to the gym so i just many pushups and situps. It wont build me up huge, but it keeps me in decent shape.

But what im wondering is, I normally do jackknives as situps, where you have your legs in the air straight out and you bring your elbows and knees to eachother. I've been doing those and i've got decent definition, but it wasnt hard to do. So I tried the traditional situps, with feet of the floor, and they were much harder. But after that *i did about 100* i noticed later in the day that my abs had less defintion, and were not as solid. Were the situps hindering my abs? Or should they be like that after a workout?

If anyone has any insight hit me with it.

First of all, if you are doing 100 sit-ups, you aren't doing them correctly. People need to stop thinking that doing 100 crunches a night will give them a 6-Pack. Lay on your back, cross your legs and bend them at a 90 degree angle off the floor. Then, just raise your chest straight up off the floor and hold for a second. If that starts to become to easy add some weight. Considering working on your obliques as well. And no, those should not be hindering the definition. A day of workout isn't going to make your muscles go away, did you drink a lot of water or something, it could be just water weight.

thnx for the tip, how would i work my obliques, like i said, i have no way of getting an fitness equiptment *weights of any sort*, and no way to get to a gym. So if anyone had anythings they have done or whatever at home, can you give me what you've done? I'm not trying to get buff, just fit. But some size wouldnt hurt.

Well, there are many different kinds of exercises you can do for your obliques but what you can do, is if you get your hands on a dumbell or two; hold the dumbell with one hand and leave it down at your side, then, keeping your hips in place just bend to the right/left without using your shoulders and whatnot to help you. If you have more questions I can post some pictures if you need.

Alright, I'll try to get some dumbells, *does it matter the weight?*.
I'm actually looking for any workours, upper and lower, just any workouts possible without any actual equiptment.

I think you're missing the point here. Super defined abs won't come from a million crunches, they will come from losing body fat. The simplest way to do that is to increase metabolism. I think you need to add good compound exercises (exercises involving multiple muscle groups) and some sprint work as well. That combined with good nutrition will turbo charge your metabolism. Here is a great

Alright, i see what your getting at, but my question is, how would i do this without a gym? What kind of compound exercises, can i do without equiptment?

If you can't get your hands on dumbells, one option can be to fill up some water bottles and freeze them, maybe even gallons, and use them as weights. Hey, trust me it helps.

let's see pictures of you.

I am posting today so i will say this:

Fitness models are fitness models, and cross country runners usually are not fitness models.

hey,, I was posting yesterday too. oooo! hehehe

Sorry, but no camera actually. I dont live the best, but I'm 5'9, 115, Skinny but in decent shape, so i dont look thin.
For the dumbells thing, i can do that, but can/will, anyone give me a atleast basic, sort of workout, something that i can do, even without the top notch equiptment.

Its all about the TA

Before initiating any exercise, especially abodominal exercises, you have to activate the transverse abdominus (TA) muscle first. This muscle stabilizes your torso and transmits energy from the lower body to the upper body. To activate it, pull your navel up and then in and maintain it through out the exercise. If done correctly, 10 sit ups is an accomplishment. I would strongly recommend weight bearing/multijoint exercises over isolation exercises like sit ups if your looking to become a more successful athlete.

Good luck,

The funny thing about everyone that wants abs is that is all they want. I think it is quite comical when you see someone with a 6 pack but has no upper body strength.

When I started All I wanted was a 6 pack (and this is STILL what I want most (maintance mode now with this), with secondary goals), and I can assure you, though I am only 5'7", 153lbs, I have upper body strength. (max bench is: 320, best 1R squat 265)......for a small guy, no one is gonna tell me (and be successful) this is weak.

Getting abs is really a function of low body fat coupled with overal weight training, which in turn brings other benefits when done the right way, and with the DIET being the main theme boss.

Ok, i've been looking, and looking, and i'm a bit more educated now, but i still need an opinion on what to do.

I know, that to get a 6 pack, you need a good diet. I'm not making my food *live with my parents, i'm 15* So, i cant completly change my diet. But i've cut out all junk food, *snacks, chocolate, candy*, and i've cut back on some of what i'm eating *as a whole* And i'm not sure if thats enough, would eating more fruit/veggies, help, or does it only help if you replace something with fruit/veggies?

I know that cardio is the best way to cut down body fat, but is it enough? i run about 10 miles a day, a combonation *i think i spelled that wrong*, of either 5-Morning, 5-Night / and 3-Morning, 7-night.

And is there a certain type of situps/crunches, i should be doing? If so what kind/reps.

Thanks
