Ab exercises

Here is my dilemma.

I go to the gym at least 4 times a week. I mainly work on my upper body (arms, chest etc) and legs. So I am pretty defined and athletic looking, however I have a bit of a belly. It's not really horribly noticeable, but an area I really want to work on.

I do sit ups like 3 times a week. Usually one set of 50 sit ups in each session. And occasionally briding. But not getting any real results.

What fat burning but muscle building ab exercises do people suggest? How regularly should I do them. etc. I don't really do cardio, would that be the best option?

Thanks for any help

Are you double-posting? I've just answered your same question in the weight loss section.

First of all: You can't burn fat in a specific area. Decrease your overall body fat.
Second: Getting a sixpack by just doing sit ups is a tough job. Do something more challenging like the ab wheel or some of the following exercises. I added a good advice from fitness coach John Alvino I posted on out blog.

First you need to burn that fat, even if you do 1000 sit-ups you won't get any result
Sit-ups, Crunches, Leg lifts etc just give you strenght it won't burn the fat on your stomach. You should run pretty Much or Get a station Bicycle and train on that

Try eat Health you know what they say : you are what you are eating

A tips for you when you train the stomach

Don't do 1 kind of exercise cause that won't train the whole body

Do V-ups and Leg lifts for the lower part, Sit-ups and crunches for the upper part
and Oblique Crunch (elbow to Knee) to train the oblique

Getting a sixpack by purely doing just sit-ups is a hard job. Use weights when doing sit-ups it really helps and you don't need to do 100 sit ups as you get the same result with 15 situps with some resistance. Take a small weight behind your neck next time you do sit-ups and see how much harder it is. Then whenever the sit-ups start to feel too easy take a heavier weight plate. Still, first you have to burn out the fat by consuming more or eating less.

although im only 17, trust me on this one. planks and v-ups are your friend

x2!

If you use weights for your other muscles, why not use them for your abs too?

Because some people are afraid of these abs getting that 'bulky' look. They are like other muscles, so they can grow if you continually go super heavy on rope crunches or ab machine crunches.

Great abdominal exercises are in some martial arts training.

Sorry but is proved that there is not such thing as spot reduction just by doing abs and sit ups you wont shrink your belly. Though keep a consistent and complete workout with a good diet and you will surely see results.

Hey,

i think so too there are many ways but weight loss is essential otherwise you will not see results. Only situps and fitness is not enough. But I personallly hate dieting :cheeky:
