I am very glad that i found a side, where i can get help, motiviation and other stuff from. I am looking forword to interesting opinions and conversations.

Thank you for reading and hopfully see ya around!

PS: I am from germay, so if my english is not that smooth. :)

your situation is fairly common. how did you achieve the 40 lb loss? did you plan center on reducing your calorie intake and increasing your exercise?

I reached it because i didnt eat at all, it wasnt really heathy. I skipped every meal i could, luckly i didnt decided to throw up, who knew where i would be now. At the moment, i am reducing my calories and try to eat healthier, but sometimes its really hard :D I do sport min. once a week, but would like to do it more - need to get that startet :)

Congrats on your weight loss so far!just getting started is the hardest part..keep up the good work and remember your diet and mental health are very closely related so not eating is definitely not the answer..if I can help please let me know :)

actually periods of fasting is not a bad method of getting your nutrition under control, but only if it is done properly. a fast is a period of not eating that is longer than 14-16 hours. that is the minimum amount of time it takes for your body to get into a state where your insulin level drops to the point where you can start using fat stores for energy. just skipping one meal, but eating less than every 8-12 hours between meals is just bad nutrition which will not only keep your insulin level high, but risks lowering your basal metabolism so your body gets used to the lower calorie intake. you'll get lethargic as your body tries to conserve energy.

if you are otherwise relatively healthy i could recommend two methods you might consider. Keto diet.... a continuous diet of low carb, higher fat that keeps your body in a constant state of ketosis. it is rather complex, but i have seen and heard about great results. i achieve a similar state daily through intermittent fasting. both these methods are well represented on Youtube... search for some lectures and see if something like this might be right for you.

good luck.

The one thing that you said that’s 100 percent true - you just need to get started. And having the desire to do it, and seeking out help...those are big parts of getting started. So you’re on your way! Don’t forget that you’ve made a decision to make a positive change in your life, so you should allow yourself to feel good about that!
As for first steps?
I’d highly recommend you start tracking what you eat on a daily basis. That way you’ll get a clearer picture of what you’re eating typically calorie wise. It’ll be a big help when you then look to make changes.
As for making changes?
Start with small permanent changes you can live with going forward. Not things you can “tolerate” while you try to lose weight. If you can stack up those small changes you’ll be shocked how the weight will come off without feeling like you’re dieting.
Last bit of advice? If you slip up at all? No worries. Just get right back at it. Everyone messes up. Don’t let it bother you. Stay positive!
Good luck!!

I'm 51 and have been fat all my like until now. I lost 130 lbs in the last 2 years.

I had always done much like you and lost and gained weight for 40 years. Don't make my mistakes. Get it off while you are still young and it hasn't hurt your health as much.

I would highly recommend Keto. I did it not even knowing about it.

The only thing that has worked for me for 50 years was completely giving up sugar, grains which include all breads and pasta, and potatoes.

Hey CB, your 40 lb weight loss is impressive to me. Others here have more wisdom than I, I am new to this and have only lost a little weight so far, but what has helped me is to record my food and post it here every day.

I had to laugh when you talked about losing weight when you were younger, I am sure that's true, but at 66 I am triple your age, so younger is all relative.

Welcome, and your English is fine, I kind of like the German accent.

Hi, Chris & welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you didn't get to the stage of vomiting to lose weight as it can do untold damage to your body. Be careful of trying anything drastic. Is there any chance of seeing a nutritionist & getting some advice? At your age, you are at a distinct advantage. If you lose the rest of your excess weight at a slow & steady pace you should still have firm skin & will be much more likely to keep the weight off. Lose it quickly & it is so much harder to maintain. I speak from personal experience.
Congratulations on getting a wonderful new job. I hope we get to read about your successes. If you feel like starting a diary some time the place to start one is https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ You will find a lot of support there. Cheers, Cate.

Hi Chrissli! A 40 lbs loss is amazing! Congratulations on that :) it sounds like you need a plan with a good meal plan to keep you full and wanting to eat, not wanting to skip meals. And also a good workout plan that is fun for you and makes you excited to feel good! Do you know what kind of exercises you like?
Ich spreche auch Deutsch, wenn Sie das englische Wort für etwas nicht kennen. :)
