Hello again everyone,

Well only 4 days now until I start my Cohen's program (waiting until after Christmas). I read an interesting post by someone offering a way to prepare for Cohen's - by eating similar foods, but I'm doing the opposite. Enjoying all my favourites now, as I am sticking to this plan once I start. So I've had my last pasta for 4-5 months, my last pie, etc.

I am psyching myself up, big time, to follow this new way of eating. Thanks to the lovely people of this forum, I have worked out how I am going to handle breakfast, with no time and no love for yoghurt.

Another big hurdle for me will be drinking all that water. Currently, I have a couple of glasses of diet coke a day, and drink a glass of water before my walk 3 times a week. That's about it. So some big changes coming up.

Okay - 3-4 litres of water a day. That doesn't sound so bad. But thinking about it a bit more, 200mls a glass, even if I just have the 3 litres a day - thats 15 glasses of water a day. 15!!!!! OHG!!!!!!!

Don't panic, I think to myself, I'll measure a full 250ml measure per drink. So that makes 12 drinks a day. I'll have a glass, before, during and after each of the 3 meals, and a glass mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and one more in the evening.

Hooley Dooley! I'm sure I'll be making sploshing noises as I walk around, with all that water in me! :D

So to get to my questions - are you all running to the toilet every hour? Will I be getting up 2-3 times each night? I suppose I should rejoice every time I pee - 'there's another few grams of fat being flushed out of my system?'
Do you need to make sure you are never too far away from a toilet? And does your body adjust to all that extra fluid over time?

Sorry these questions are a little personal. Guess I'm just after some reassurance that it will all be okay.

Thanks
:)

You will find for the first week or so you'll be peeing like a mad woman!
But don't stress, your body will get used to it and it will settle down and get used to having water regularly. It will also stop holding onto fluid so you will notice a MASSIVE weight drop in the first 4 weeks.
I found that the easiest way for me to drink the required amount of water was to buy 2 x 1.5litre bottles of water with the sipper top and make sure i had one with me at all times.I made sure i drunk BOTH bottles completely empty every day. sometimes i find i am even refilling! I think this is the easiest way to keep track of your consumption because if you get to the end of the day and you see you have 2/3 of a bottle left you know that you need to start sculling to have your required amount!!!!

You will also find that if you do not drink enough water your weight loss will slow down, and the toxins will build up in your body.

Can i reccomend also making sure you take good quality vitamins, and also omega 3 & 6. I found that my skin got really dry and the Omega's helped HEAPS. I also have started exfoliating properly and my skin looks and feels amazing!

Good luck, this program is awesome, follow it and you will be melting!

I'm not specifically on Cohen's, but I did have a bit of a struggle with water. Not the intake, but the output!!!
My plan requires me to drink about 64 ounces of water each day, which is about 2 litres. That's what I started with. For the first few days, I was peeing every half hour after I drank the bulk of my water, and every hour or so between drinks. I thought for sure that I'd never get through this -- how do I go shopping? Sit through a meeting? Talk on the phone? Do just about anything?? But after the first few days, it settled down to every 75 minutes or so. After about another week of this, it was every 2-3 hours. And now, 6 weeks into it, I pee more often than I did before I drank all the water, but only every 3-4 hours, which is much better than when I started!! I do find that I need to run into the bathroom at places like the mall and the grocery store and stuff (which I didn't before), but my life no longer revolves around being sure I'm never far from a bathroom!! Since then, I've upped my water to 3 litres a day, and while I pee a little more often, I think my body will adjust again. Now I find that if I dont' think the water, I feel sluggish or "bulky". And I was someone who hated water before.
So, never fear... your body will adjust, and you'll start to love it.
I agree with Brieziel -- it's easier to measure if you use bottles instead of glasses... that way you can carry it with you and work on it all the time, instead of always running to the kitchen to pour another glass.

I used to drink quite a bit of water before I started Cohens, but I drink more now. I guess I'm probably on the upper end of the scale of water drinkers. Its quite easy for me to drink my allowance.
I also have a shockingly small bladder and am not great at the best of times at 'holding on"!
I do tend to go to the loo quite a lot during the day. But whereas I used to go to the toilet during the night most nights, now I nearly never have to get up to go, and I can hold on for longer once I do wake up.
So, I think its been quite good for bladder training!

Hello

Before cohens, my only water intake was in the caffine free diet coke, so going from that to 3 litres a day was a huge battle for me, i now find it easy and it's now my drink of choice. i can't drink coke drinks anymore cause i find they are too sweet. when you sit and drinks loads of water, obviously your peeing every 15 mins or so but if its paced throughout the day your body gets used to it.

good luck and remember where all here for ya.. tata

Hormone stabilisation

Hi

One of the hormones that will stabilise is the "anti diuretic hormone" which is responsible for retaining water at particular times - most importantly at night. It is the hormone responsible for concentrating water at night so that you don't have to keep getting up in the night to pee. So you should find over time that this begins to stabilise and you will eventually sleep through and wake up in the morning ready to go!!

Phew! That's a relief (in more ways than one :D )

Seriously, thank you for your helpful and friendly advice. I've only been on this forum for a few days, but I like you all so much already.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone.
