A problem...

Hey guys. Long time reader, first time poster :)

Now, I have a problem when it comes to walking/running. I've never been the fittest of people, but am now trying to shed a few pounds and reach some kind of fitness, but for the past 6 months or so, whenever I walk for long periods at a decent pace (not quite power-walking) or sometimes even run for short periods, my shins go sore. But as soon as I sit down for about 10 minutes and get up, they are ok again. I have no idea as to how to solve this problem, I'm not that privy to treatment techniques due to my limited fitness background. So i was hoping someone here could help me :)

Thanks a lot

When you start working out you will notice all sorts of little aches and pains that will confuse you and worry you. This is just your body not knowing how to respond. You will also be getting little horrible side aches next and occational headaches as your body adjusts. Just Keep at it and it will all work out in the end. Just be concerned about "REAL PAIN"

This kind of pain continues even when you stop exerciseing and is usually a-symetrical. If you feel real pain, stop what you are doing and stretch out and try again later. A test to see if it is real is to stop and see if it goes away in a minute. If it goes away and slowly comes back it is probably nothing. Take small breaks or just bear it. If it is there and never leaves even after you stop then you have hurt yourself and you need to stop and not work out like that again until the pain is completely gone.

Also, warm up before you push yourself. That helps a whole lot

Stretch well beforehand and warm up some before you begin the real exercise. I have been exercising since Febuary and lost 42 pounds. Shin pain was a big issue for me when walking and running but I just kept a traight head and pushed past the pain. Now I have no problem because I'm used to it and they have become stronger. You'll get by, just keep your mind off it while you exercise, but if it gets REALLY bad stop stretch and rest.
