Weight-Loss A nutrition question about fiber.

Weight-Loss
I'm trying to learn more about nutrition and I'm having trouble understanding fiber? Since I'm new to nutrition in general this may come off as a stupid question and therefore I apologize.

So anyways, what is fiber? Is it some kind of carbohydrate or maybe a type of fat(like omega 3 being a type of fat)? Perhaps this concept is wrong and in fact it's made up of many nutrients?

Thanks.

Fiber is a component of some foods. It's the indigestible part of these foods - vegetables, fruits, and grains. Since it doesn't get digested, it provides bulk that helps move things through your digestive tract.

But one of the things you have to realize is that food isn't ever just one thing. Most foods have multiple nutrients - more or less of some kinds than others.

All plant foods have fiber to some degree or another: but those foods will also have a measure of carbs, protein, fats, etc. In general foods that are higher in complex carbs are also going to be higher in fiber.

Just to add some food rich with fibre...

Whole grain breads, cereals, brown rice, fruits (apricots, dates, prunes, raisins, apple with skin, all berries, oranges), vegetables (broccoli, spinach, cabbage, almonds, whole flaxseed , soynuts) ...Hope this help :)
