A new Cardio Machine I just saw?????

Ok not sure where this should go, but this sounds like a good place to start. The town I live in just opened a Gold’s Gym Express that is closer to where I live than the full featured Gold’s I normally go. As I was touring the new facility I saw two machines that I have only seen on the Biggest Loser. These are hand crank machines. It is basically a stationary bike that you use your hands instead of your feet. My question is, are these machines worth the effort. I can see their use for someone that doesn’t have use of their legs, but do they offer a good cardio workout to everyone. I am just looking for something to change up the same old routine. My normal cardio of choice is an elliptical or recumbent bike. These two machines offer cardio without stress on my left foot that I lost the big toe on due to a spider bite. If anyone has any info about this machine I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Hey Gizmo,

The hand machines are a definitely a great form of cardiovascular exercise for those who have injuries or restricted use of their legs. As long as you don't have any upper body injuries or other conditions that are contraindications for upper body exercise, then you should be fine. If you're unsure, check with your doctor. A big difference between upper and lower body exercise is that with upper body aerobic exercise, your BP will increase faster, so you may need to do a slightly lower intensity than you would expect.
