A little belly fat

Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums and just wanted to ask a question.
I am currently an 18 year old boy, weighing at 163 pounds and my height is 5'10. I lost about 70 pounds about 2 years ago, and I still have some 'jigglyness' on my belly. It seems like a have a little fat left, WITH some loose skin. I was wondering if i should just do some resistance training and add some muscle to the area? Or should i lose about another 10ish pounds THEN do that? Or both at the same time. I will provide a picture if needed. Your help is appreciated! :)

Hey Holden!

If it is belly fat I would suggest combining strength training with cardio. Strength training will improve your metabolism tremendously and make it much easier for you to burn some calories. You'll also start to build muscle which will help improving your figure, if that's what you're after.

You are young so I do suspect that if you do have some loose skin it will recede eventually. Just continue a healthy lifestyle and you'll continue to shape up.

Feel free to ask any other questions you may have, this forum is great for support.

All the best.

Thank you for the response Snezy! I've been maintaining 163 pounds for about 2 years, i rarely exercised if at all lol. Getting a little sick of the imperfections. I just don't want a jiggly belly anymore, embarrassing around women.. But i will do exactly that. What kind of exercises do you recommend?

Well I don't know what kind of environment you're in. Do you have a gym you can go to? Or are you just exercising out of your home.

If you have nothing, that's okay. Just start by doing a little bit of jogging, followed by 3 sets of push ups, do as many as you can at first and then try to match that 2 more times, finish it off with some sit ups or crunches. I would suggest doing this at least 3 times a week, 4 would be better. That will help you burn those extra few calories you need to reduce your belly fat as well as the fat on the rest of your body. Good luck :)

This could be an interesting thread for me. Last year I also lost 70lbs, but still have excess fat around the waist. About 10-15lbs to go.

Snezy gives the basic strength training moves, which are great, but IMO, bog standard sit ups aren't as effective as you might think.

By all means do the push up program. Improves your core / big muscles used, when broken down, LOTS of calories are used to repair the muscles / calisthenics (body weight moves like push ups chin ups) are great to improve strength etc.

But sit ups only work on a very small part of your abs. A good exercises are lying on your back and lifting your (straight) legs vertically up and bring back down.

Another GREAT workout is "rock climbing" where you put yourself in the push up position, go about 3/4 way down and bring one knee up to your chest and back down, then repeat with the other leg. Hence the rock climbing motion.

This can be varied by bringing one knee up to the opposite elbow, and also bringing it up to the outside of the same elbow.

I guarantee this is a great workout, my torso was in agony for DAYS after it!

P.S With the last half of my weight loss last year I didn't have a gym membership. I am a firm believer and supporter of home workouts for many reasons. If you need any tips on home workouts, let me know.

Thank you everyone for the replies, Another question. Do loose skin and belly fat look the same? I honestly don't know what it is anymore. I'm going to try posting pictures soon.
