A Jeeper's Journey...

I feel awkward starting a journal since I'm a new member  But I've been working out for a few months now, and I'm finally reaching the stage where I feel guilty if I don't work out when I plan to and guilt trip myself into it. Sooo I figured I'm ready :D

My Goal: To improve my overall fitness level, gain some muscle strength, and lose a few pounds while I'm at it.

I'm currently at about 128-130 lb, 5'3, with a 30" waist. I'm a broad chested Italian, so I plan on losing no more than 8 lbs so I don't look goofy... But- that could easily change, once I get there anyway. I've been doing push ups, pull ups, chin ups, sit ups, various free weight/dumbbell exercises, and slowly improving my diet since the end of December. About 2 weeks ago I started doing some researching and joined this forum. Since then, I've been eating breakfast daily where as I wasn't before, have added more fruits/veggies, lean protein, fibers and more into my diet, started running again, added some squats in with my weight exercises, and who knows what else! I've also started drinking Whey protein daily. I've slowly been seeing results since I started my routine, but with every diet change and the more I amp up my routine, I seem to notice results even quicker.

Anyway... Since this is my first journal, I hope you members don't mind if I sort of wing it... I'll of course be getting better as I progress. I'll go ahead and start with what today's routine consisted of.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup Hot Cereal w/ a medium banana cut into it. 1 cup coffee.

Snack: Kind Fruit/Nut bar, 1 scoop Whey powder in 8 oz milk.

Lunch: Salad w/ light Olive oil/vinegar. Then worked in the front yard for about 2.5 hours in the afternoon.

Evening: 2 mile run, followed by 3 sets of 30 Burpees, 2 sets of 80 sit-ups. 1 scoop Whey Proteien mixed in 8 oz of Whole Milk and an apple after working out For dinner- London Broil with fresh veggies, 1 cup rice.

I guess that's it for now... I'll post when I can, and it won't be as long as this post next time :yelrotflmao:

Good luck. :)

And the posts can be as long as you want cuz its your journal.

Good luck. I've heard it's better to do cardio after a workout. Just what I've heard.
I've heard both... But I remember reading not long ago that if you do it first, it helps build up your stamina/endurance for the rest of your workout. I'll have to try cardio afterwards next time though.

Had some scrambled eggs and wheat toast for breakfast this morning. It's a b-e-a-utiful day out and I'm not working, so I plan on getting plenty of exercise while working in the yard.

Do your strength work first when you're fresh and your conditioning after.

Do you plan on lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises like push ups and pull ups???

See above :D

I do push ups and pull ups almost daily, just so I can progress at the both of them. So far I've just been using free weights and dumbbells for exercises. I had plans to join a gym but am now in between jobs, but as soon as that changes I'll be joining a local one.

Today I did my weight exercises and body weight exercises first, followed by some reps of burpees. I've noticed since I started doing burpees that my cardio has improved, those things definitely work you!

Anyway- For dinner tonight, I had a small salad with some grilled Red Snapper, and a cup of sugar/fat free pudding for a small dessert. I plan on resting tomorrow and doing more cardio on Sunday. I think my plan is working OK for me(I haven't exactly laid it out, and it varies a bit each time), and I'm doing my best to make every healthy diet change I can. I'm breaking old habits and it feels good :D

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Spent a few hours busting my hump on my Jeep doing some minor fabrication work and gave 'er a quicky detail since the weather is good. Also spent a good hour working in the front yard.

In the evening, my workout routine was as follows:

Push ups- 4 reps of 30
Pull ups- 3 reps of 12
Sit ups- 2 reps of 75
Chinnies- 3 reps, did as many as I could handle each time lol
Military press- 3 reps of 15
Dumbbell curls- 3 reps of 15
Squats- 3 reps of 15
Burpees- 3 reps of 30

Followed that with a nice glass of milk and a scoop of whey, and for dinner a small salad and grilled pork loin.

These past few weeks I've really noticed a difference in my body, I've definitely changed my eating habits for the better and the introduction of Whey protein seems to be helping too (It's only been a few weeks since I started taking it, but I swear I can already see a difference). It feels great to be sticking to a healthy diet (For the most part... I'm still a bit of a candy junkie...) and the fact that I feel guilty if I even think of skipping working out makes me proud of myself. I read somewhere that it takes up to 45 days to change/break habits, I think I'm getting past that point finally.

Today calls for a 2 mile run and some bodyweight exercises afterwards. I've started taking my dog for runs with me (2 yr old 80 lb. Hounddog) and he LOVES it! He does very well. both of us are really enjoying it

By the way- THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! :D

I hate to nitpick, but i think you mean you did 4 sets of 30 reps etc. :)

Good work btw.

Ha thanks for catching that, I didn't even see it until you pointed it out. I tend to be OCD about stuff so nitpicking is OK by me :cool3:

And thanks :D Really feels good to be working out and seeing results!

Well yesterday I worked much later than I planned, so I only squeezed in some weight exercises for a bit. Today though I went for a good, 2.5 mile run with the hound and did various bodyweight/dumbbell exercises both before and after. Also introduced a new vitamin from GNC that's s'posed to help my sometimes achy joints (I don't have it in front of me, I'll look at it in the morning :) )

Anyone who's reading- Any tips you can give me to help with what I've been doing? I'm happy with my results and feel better, but am always looking for more!

I stepped on the scale this morning and I haven't lost any actual weight, but my mid section has been tightening up. Which means I'm losing the little bit of fat I wanted to drop and I'm gaining muscle! :beer2: I think I need to do some more work on my arms, they're progressing but not as fast as I'd like. I don't want to introduce any supplements other than the whey I take 2-3 times a day, I'm cool with just sticking to my routine and seeing results over time. Like I said I'm a broad chested, short little Italian so I want my arms to look proportionate to my chest, but I'm not going for the insanely ripped look either. Overall, I'm seeing results and I'm happy, and it makes it even easier to stick to what I'm doing.

Today calls for an upper body workout, and I might squeeze in a short run. Either that, or a nice long walk with the pup :D

I took a break for a few days and got back into my routine yesterday. It was as follows:

Pull ups- 3 sets of 15
Push ups- 4 sets of 25
Burpees- 60 total
Tabata squats w/ dumbells- 4 sets for 20 seconds, 20 seconds in between sets
Chinnies- 3 sets, as many reps as I could do
And finally- 2 mile run with the pooch

I've bumped up my cardio and have noticed a quicker fat loss around my belly and am almost where I want to be, so I think it's time I start bumping up my weight routine and skipping a day of cardio sometimes. I feel like I really need to join a gym, but the job search is keeping me from doing so. I know I'd benefit from the machines as I'd like to do more core exercises and work on my legs a bit more, I feel like squats/running just isn't cutting it. But hence, I've onlystarted both about 3-4 weeks ago. Either way, I guess I'll get there...

Well I can see that I'm finally getting the 6 pack I've been wanting! :D I've still got a bit of belly fat to lose, but every day the mirror shows progress and it motivates me even more.

the past few days I've been doing some high-weed mowing for about 7-8 hours a day on my grandfathers property. I've been pushing around a big high weed mower on terrain that isn't exactly even and has lots of rocks, so I've been enjoying the workout from it. I've been focusing on my core exercises more, and have been trying to really fall into a routine of doing cardio and some core work one day, and muscle training/upper body the next. Been staying as diligent as I can to a healthy diet and I think I've been doing pretty well.

Today is another cardio day o I'll be doing my usual loop with the pooch, and perhaps some core workouts following that. Then the weekend calls for rest :)

Well yesterday was my first day of going to a gym :D

I was given a 5 day guest pass to Anytime Fitness by a neighbor of mine. It's a brand new facility and is pretty freakin' sweet! I can't remember all the exercises or machines (I spent half the time looking at how to use them haha), but I definitely felt more of a burn than what I get working out at home. I'm going to sign up as a member this week, I'm stoked I finally got myself to go :D
