A few questions: shoes and warm up.

Hi I am 17/male weigh about 196 lbs. Been running for 2 weeks now. I run on road/sidewalks and a bit uphill. and I have two questions to ask:

1) My shoes that I use right now are new balance 500, they are a bit old so I am thinking about buying new ones. Any suggestions on what to buy, and are new balance a good brand for running?

2) I am not sure about the warm up routine I should do before running. I used to be in AFJROTC and loved theirs. So I been trying to google and looked on joegenius for exercise steps that are used in military, for PT steps and all, but I didn't have any luck. so if you know a site that does provide steps for warm up and techniques on running please post them here. I would really appreciate any help/advice or comments.

Its been 2 weeks, please some one post somthing, i really need this help.

buy asics shoes!!!! I worked in a running shop for a year and they are the best. I own a pair of 2100 which are the new models. They have twisted gel which acts as a spring....preventing injury over long distances. New balance are OK but they seem to have come back to us from being worn too quickly. Just buy asics from a shop or the internet. If u have ANY questions about running stuff ask me as i have the benefit of being a shop assistant. :(

I don't think any brand is much better than another and although I admit that asics are popular, I have a pair of adidas that have served me well. The most important aspect is the fit. I strongly reccommend you visit a running store and ask for someone to help you pick out a good pair.

any REAL running shop doesn't sell adidas. They sell saucony, new balance, asics and mizuno (possibly). Believe me run with adidas then with asics and you will notice the difference. They support the whole leg and offer great ankle support. Asics ONLY sell running shoes so they know what they're doing(they sell badminton shoes aswell but they look like runners)

Don't knock on Adidas. As a young Portuguese American, I take offense to that!

I run in New Balances right now. I've had them over a year, and while they are pretty damn worn, they still serve me well on my runs.

just went for a run in the brand new sparkling asics. I read the thread on motivation and it seems to have worked. I actually enjoyed that run :p

I used to run in New Balance, but I just picked up a pair of Asics and I'm more comfortable in them than the old shoes. I think the New Balance sneakers are designed for wider feet, so the Asics fit me snugger.

As an older...still young Portuguese American...Why should I take offense to bashes on Adidas???

I just purchased a pair of Nike Free online...I usually run with New Balance because they feel nice to this mongo...but I bought into the marketing for the Frees. I'll let you know how they work.

Hey did you buy your shoes yet??!!
My suggestions would be.
Go to a store that specializes in running shoes and work with the sales person, they can help you find the best pair, if you go to Walmart you will miss out on great advice/knowledge.

Ok, there are all types off shoes, you can't really go wrong with almost any of the popular, name brand running shoes, it is about the right fit and what your special needs are.
So the sales person will ask you all kinds of questions (if they are any good) like-do you tend to roll in or out when you run? Do you need extra support, do you ever experience pain while running? Are you flat footed? Where do you usually run?
Now if you spend the next week or so really paying attention to these things while running, especially take note if your feet roll or not, You should be equipped with the right knowledge to buy your best pair of shoes. :D

FIL- What is the Portuguese-Adidas connection???

By the way I love my Adidas' and my Saucany's still give me blisters after months!!! I've never heard great things about NIKE's, just that they are good but over marketed and over priced, and of course all that child labor stuff from years back.....

Make sure you go to a running shop with properly trained staff. Tell them that you pronate and see what they do. If they look confused just leave :D

Fil...Our national soccer team is sponcored by Nike though. Still love the Adidas brand...just not the running shoes.
