Sport A few questions for you...

Sport Fitness
I'm 16.5 years old, 5ft 6" and 63kg. I have been lifting weights and running for around a year now, my body shape is toned and pretty good. Is it safe for me to use protein shakes? if so what would you reccommend to use. Also what type of nutrients should i be eating to increase muscle mass besides proteins? Thanks! :D

It probably is safe, but i wouldnt risk it cos of ur age. Im not a huge expert on supplements, but unless u want to really bulk up you can get everything you need from real food.

If you do start using powder i'd sugest taking half the sugested amount.

For simplicity, 1 gram per pound of bodyweight for protein, 3 grams per pound of bodyweight for carbs, and about 25% of your calories from fats, so...on you I'd say 25-30 grams of fat.

Make up the difference you're missing with protein with protein shakes if you have to, but (of course as has been mentioned) it's way more important for you to just eat. I'd say it'd be pretty hard not to get all the protein you need at your weight from just food.

chicken breast has as much protein as a protein shake does....in equal caloric proportions i think. may not have more, but just as close, and its not a freakin powder. i would never trade my chicken breast for a powder, even though when i walk into GNC, those tubs of whey protein sure do seem to call my name.

Thanks for clearing things up with me peeps

another thing for you, when i lift heavy weights i do 45 minute sessions a time. Would i benefit more lifting weights every second day, and the resting days just do some simple cardio?

It depends on what u mean by benifiting...

It would prob be better for your health to do the cardio. But not if you wanna get massive. At 16-17 though, im sure you should worry more about health and fitness
