Hey everyone.
Im a pretty novice runner. I do ok, but I could use some improvement. I recently passed my Police PT test and did the 1.5 mile in 12:15. I did the 50 yard dash in 6.4 seconds and my mile is about 7:30.
I try to run about 4-5 times a week.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday I go to the gym at school and run 1.5 miles on the track. Its hard to keep focused and do well because I keep running around in circles and boring the hell outta myself.
Tuesday and Thursday I run for 20 minutes or about 2 miles around my neighborhood anywhere from 7pm to 9pm.
Ok, now that all of that is out of the way. I have some questions.
How can I fit interval training and sprints into my weekly workout?
Is jogging 2 miles that late at night and after days I ran bad for me?
Will jogging a slow pace help me in the long run?
I picked up a pair of Champion shoes for around $30. They have a gel heel, are light and have good support in the middle. Is there a better shoe I should get or is this one ok? Also, they are relatively new and dont even have 50 miles on them yet.
Is there any reading I should do, a good book or magazine or internet site?
and now for my concerns. Recently Ive had a sinus infection and bad migraines so I havent ran for about a week. Today I go to run and my mile was about 9:30 and my legs really felt the burn. I think my legs were still sore from the PT test on Saturday, and then being sick for a while and not running for a week probably added to the difficulty. Any particular problems here?
Well, thanks for any advice in advance.
