A curious question for owners of multiple cats

Can you explain how often the sand box gets full? I am watching two cats, and I am starting to get concerned about the volume of crap these things produce. I cleaned the box out yesterday, and it was nearly one garbage bag full. Couldn't possibly be from just two days, plus the stink is just horrible. So I wonder, if this is possible? Should I cut back on food? Currently I feed them twice, with a cup full of food. They seem pretty happy about it. Am I just over reacting? To note, I never had a pet cat, and I just had dogs, and the current dog only goes twice a day with a small nugget that doesn't even compare to these two.

Didn't the owners tell you how much to feed them? They should have.

I have 3 cats and I clean their litter box *everyday*. I have a *big* litter box too, but if you don't want the smell you got to keep it clean. As for food, I feed them a little less than 1/4 cup twice a day.

They may not have cleaned the box for a few days. If my guys box goes for more than two it's disgusting.

Hope this helps....

Thanks! That was helpful, and he did explain the amount of food to give, and I've been giving round about that amount. I checked today and it's been a total of four days, and the box isn't nearly as full as it was two days prior so I guess you're right that it was. I was getting extremely worried about it.

Well it stinks like crap in there now. I don't know how to correct it. I walked in this morning and the blast of fresh cat crap nearly caused me to to leave. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I checked the box again, and can't figure out where all that crap smell is coming from.

I sprayed odor repellent in it. Just wondering, could such a thing harm a cat? Don't want to hurt it, but after spraying that in there, the smell went away or not as nearly stinky.

However, I counted clumps. Each day, there are a total of five new clumps. That's like 2.5 clumps per cat. The measurement is approximately 2x4, and the cat box is approximately 24x36. So at this rate, the box will be 1/4th full by 5 days. That's a lot of crap.

Holy ****, you're counting cat crap now?!?
Maybe you should keep an audit to give to the owners when they get back, maybe some pictures too

I'm actually close to tears at work now thinking about you counting piles of crap in a tray

No offense intended but that really has made me laugh

Actually I called with the observation. I'm just worried. Also, the cats put napkins into the toilet and when I flushed it, the toilet got clogged. Man, now I'm getting worried with so much crap smell, a clogged toilet, and a box full of cat crap.
