A Chocoholic's Diary

I am starting my new life today. I am going to assemble my Total Gym again - which is just gathering dust in the basement and will start working out tomorrow. I fell down the stairs today (w/ my 19 month old son!) and it's one of those days where you're ironically thankful for being fat because my fall was cushioned by my big behind. :p

I cannot, cannot get rid of chocolate completely, but with your help, I will be able to get it down to a manageable level. I buy wonderful Dark Chocolate made in Venezuela from Trader Joe's. It only has 3g fat and 3g sugar per serving (and tastes like you're eating pure cocoa) but I need to get my consumption down (I can eat a whole bar a day!).

Well, happy Monday to everyone!

Good luck! The best way is cold turkey, but everyone is different! All the best!

I think I will die if I go cold turkey on chocolate, but I was able to do it once - 40 days w/o chocolate one Lenten season.

That said, I just got the Total Gym out of the box. Yehey!

So, here's what my food diary is looking like so far:

Breakfast
Peach yogurt (lite and fit)
Green tea

Brunch
Mix of brown & white rice
Mung bean soup
Leftover chinese food (double cooked pork) - bad, bad, but I just had a little bit
1 square dark chocolate
1 pc native milk candy (another no-no...but a friend of mine gave them to me yesterday. i'm giving most of it away today)

Hey Darkchoco,

Good luck keeping your hands away from the chocolate. Cold turkey or not, it makes easier if you don't keep a supply around...

I worked out this morning! Felt great. I will try to put in a little bit more later.

Breakfast - strawberry/blueberry smoothie
Lunch - 3 veggiemeat balls, rice and chicken soup
- 4 sections of a chocolate bar (uh-oh! darn it! that's 12 g fat and 12 g sugar)

Hey Jen,

Thanks for the encouraging words. Wow, you've come a long way! You're almost at your goal weight. Good for you!!! Woo-hoo! What's your secret.;)

Lol. No problem.

My secret you ask? My secret is the simple fact that I will no longer veiw my being overweight as an acceptable lifestyle. It's something that I am absolutely going to change no matter what I have to do. We are totally worth the effort.

Jen,
You are soooo right! I think the more people support each other, the more successful they will be. So thanks for the support!

darkchoco, thanks for your post on my diary! we will definitely have to support each other. gotta admit though, i'm with the others-- cold turkey!! out of sight, out of mind :) but like they also said, to each his own. hope you had a great day, and congrats on getting your gym out!

First of all, congratulations on taking the first step and getting the Total Gym out of the box! :D Second of all, I'm sure we'd love to hear how you're doing on it.
And third of all, I'm actually of the other mindset on the chocolate. I think you should allow yourself 1 square of chocolate per day. Have that be your daily allowance of sweets, just like trying to eat a balanced diet. That being said, it also means you shouldn't have more than one or even two squares or have other sweets to make up for it. This way you don't feel like you're giving up anything, you're just cutting back.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! Yes, I got the Total Gym out of the box and have been working out the past 3 days. I want to take is slowly so I'm doing 20-30 mins on it. That said, my husband just bought me a bag of Doritos. Ugh! I had so much of it last night that I felt sick. I know, I should not stock up on junk and chocolate. I can do away w/ the chips but I'll try to limit my chocolate intake. Yeah...taking baby steps. I don't dare weigh myself yet. Maybe after 2 weeks.... I'll let you all know!

I can relate

Hi!
I can so relate to the chocolate addiction. I too each chocolate everyday. Though I don't have as discriminating a palate as you. I'll eat almost any kind of chocolate...:p

It a daily struggle to keep away from sweets in general. I don't know about quitting all together or allowing yourself a small portion. I guess it's something you have to decide for yourself. Are you satisfied with one square (or small portion) and not tempted to have more. Or are you better off not have any at all (like an alcholic or smoker...can't have even one).

But yahoo for you for getting the gym back out!!!! Keep that up!! Often times the fact that you're actively working on your body helps make the decision to stay away from junk an easier one.

I hadn't had chips in a while (real chips that is) and today I had a bag of 'lays barbaque chips'....while they were easy to chug down, they felt really really greasy to me. If there's anything I hate, it's the feeling of grease sliding down my throat...blech.

I imagine if we control the amount of food we put in our mouths and how often we can pretty much eat 'normal' foods. It's when you've done your research and you know that say a couple slices of pizza are over 1200 calories each is when you need to decide 'hey, is it really worth it?'
