5k Saturday ... how much workout/rest before?

I've been trianing to run (not walk at all) my first 5k for the past 8 weeks ... the 5k is this Saturday ... normally I run on Mon, Thurs, and Sat ... so this week our training schedule says to run Mon, Thurs, Fri, and 5k Sat ... seems to me like you would want to rest the day before running the 5k not run? Why would they want us to run 2 days consecutive before the 5k? I may sound like a wuss to some of yall hahah :) I also workout on the elliptical on days I dont run ...
 
If you aren't running the 5k race as just a part of your training and have specifically trained for the race a small taper is usually a good idea. For a 5k a two day taper isn't a bad idea. 2 days before the race you can do some x-training and then the day before the race rest. It really all depends on your level of experience running but since this is your first 5k race the day before should be a complete rest day. Good luck and have so much fun!!!:) :)
 
How long do you run when you train. If you run 10km when you train you woulnt need a rest period before a race. If you run 2km when you train just have a day off. Good luck and eat some pre race food like white bread with honey on it. DONT EAT AN APPLE
 
Thanks for the response yall :) We normally run a little less than 3 miles 3 times a week ... yesterday i did 3.1 which is the same as the 5k ... the race is in the morning so sounds like I should just rest today.

Why should i not eat an apple? hahha :) just curious :) I planned on eating a thing of yogurt and a trail mix bar (with 11g protein its by Atkins) is that cool? Cant wait for the race in the morning should be soo much fun!! I just decided today I am going to do the Danskin Triathalon that is one month away!! Better get on the bike and swim FAST!!
