I just got a wake-up call. I've been overweight for three years and having a blast drinking wine up a storm and eating anything I felt like which usually includes fries, pizza and burgers! omg... yesterday I had my BP taken and it's way high 150/97... I've been told its time up, I gotta lose the weight (20 whole bloody kgs!) and stop the boozing pronto!! it seems so daunting! I have been trying to lose weight for a while and doing workouts with a personal trainer, but clearly, I haven't been eating correctly and can't out train a bad diet! So this medical emergency is forcing me to take my health seriously. I HAVE to.

Hello MamzelleT and welcome to the forum!
Glad your high BP was detected before something happened and I´m glad you´re taking your health seriously. The good news is that if your diet is really that abysmal small changes are going to have big effects.
Even a small glass of wine will have 120 kcal or so, so if you have two small glasses a day for a year on top of a healthy, balanced diet that´s about 12.5 kg gained. Or, you know, lost, if you were maintaining and just take out the wine.

Hi, again Mamzelle. I'll be going alcohol-free in March so will join you & we can be moral support for one another. I have 10 kg to lose. I used to weigh a lot more back in 2007 & lost 36 kg way back then. It is harder as you get older, but it can be done. Our health is our wealth.

having that glass of wine with dinner at 6pm, the last meal of the day, vs putting off that glass of wine until 10-11pm, will have two very different results over time. nutrition and dieting are not as simple as counting calories. when you eat is just as important as what or how much you eat.

there is never a problem here unless you try to sell something or point to something/ someone who does. look at my diary pages for what i've found works for me... there are a few good internet resources for nutrition information there and the internet has so many more once you know what to look for. i try to keep things short and use pictures whenever possible... :)

I´m sorry your head is hurting, but if it´s a sign of withdrawal your body is soon going to be VERY thankful for the change.

I hope your headache settles soon!!
