3 Miles in 30 Days - Is it Possible?

I've had a few months to train for a 3 mile relay leg coming up in just over 30 days. The time slipped by, excuses came & went and now I am totally unprepared. Is it possible for me to do this?

Yes, 3 miles is not a very long way for some of you but I have no running experience whatsoever. I can only run 1/4 mile before stopping. One of my problems is shin pain that makes me stop running after 2 minutes but also I'm just not prepared. Any advice?

I did order some real running shoes (was using 4-year old walkers previously) and I'm considering running twice/day every other day and walking and a light leg weight program the other days. Will this work? Do I stand a chance?

Quitting is not an option. I said I would do it and I will, even if I kill myself.

Very possible I would say. Go online and google "Walk to 5k" training plan and that should help. Remember to pace yourself and not run at a dead heat and then stop, pay attention to your breathing and be concious of keeping your body relaxed as you run so you are less fatigued.

Good luck! Even if you run and walk you are doing your best. Be proud of yourself.

I doubt you will be able to increase your stamina much over 1/4 mile, especially with shin pain which will probably keep you from training much.

I would plan on alternating 1/4 mile runs with 1/4 mile walks. There are a lot of walkers at these recreational events.

Enjoy the day.

If the new running shoes help with the shin pains... then I think you'll be able to do it. Otherwise you might not have enough time to work up to 3 miles. Just remember to warm up, stretch, and cool down.

I think a 3 mile run is something any human without any injuries or weight conditions is capable of doing, its just a matter of getting into the mental focus of pushing on after you "feel" like stopping

Agreed, see if the shoes help with the pain, thats a big factor. Keep your training consistent with your diet. And remember the most important thing, dont overdo it, if ya feel ya gotta stop and walk every other half mile than do that. The last thing ya want is an injury that will hold you back from your next run and set ya way back. Good luck and keep us informed ! Johnny
