In the past year, I have trained and completed 3 full marathons but still gained weight. I'm not kidding myself, as I get older the extra 10 pounds of blubber just won't come off. Everything has been checked out by my doctor and it's all good. I love running and plan on another one this winter but would be really happy if I could take this crap off my gut!!!! Any advice for an old lady?

Hey JB, welcome to the forum! I am very impressed that you are running and completing marathons, that puts you in a rare class of folks.

It might help if you told people what you are eating and other things about yourself. I good way to do that is to start a diary, it will give you exposure to a lot of smart folks who can give you advice and support.

Best of luck!

Hi, JB! As Rob says, welcome to the forum. :)
Is that ten pounds gained in the past year, or is it ten pounds you've carried for a while that's not coming off as easily as it used to?
And "old lady"? I bet you're not older than I am! Either way, congrats on your marathon-running fitness!

Hi, JB & welcome to the forum. WOW! 3 marathons in one year? Please don't call yourself an old lady. You do have competition in the forum, but I think that's in age only & not fitness. It does get much harder to lose weight as you get older, but maybe we have to accept that our body changes shape as we age, regardless. My mother was tiny all of her life, but she developed a stomach in her 80's which she hated.

Thanks everyone for the great response. I appreciate all the advice and look forward to posting my progress with my running and my weight. I think the diary is a great idea. It's hard for me to turn down a good piece of cake but if I have to count it maybe I just won't eat it. Thank You again for taking the time to respond!

Same here, but I could add a whole lot of other foods to the cake. I find a diary helps me understand exactly what I am eating, and as you say knowing I have to write it down helps keep me from eating too much. Look forward to reading your diary.

I totally understand and it's frustrating. Recently one of my friends told me about this weight loss blog. So far so good guys. I've lost 5 pounds. I know it's not a lot, but I'm going to continue for more results. if anybody wanted to try for themselves here's the link spam link removed
