Hi! I am new to the forum. This is my first post. A little about me:

Age: 27
Sex: female
Height: 5’6
Starting weight: 230 (highest weight of my life - January 11, 2019)
Current weight: 210
Short term goal weight: 153 (My normal BMI range)
Ultimate goal weight: 120
Total pounds lost once goal is met: 110 lbs

I have yoyo-dieted most of my adult life. As a result, my weight has fluctuated a lot. Now that I am pushing 30, I want to change my life. I want to finally break that cycle and lose this weight for good! Since January 11, I’ve lost 20 pounds through Keto and intermittent fasting, however I worry these methods won’t be sustainable long term. I still miss carbs so much! Are there any other women out there who have lost significant amounts of weight (>100 lbs) and kept it off? I’d love to hear any tips. Thanks!

Hi there,

I just posted my first post here and kinda addresses everything I can say in response to your post but I’m going to reply anyway

Yo-yo dieting is VERY common. I absolutely hate the BMI calculators. They are only to be used as a guide. Don’t get carried away by trying to make yourself fit into any category. I’m now fitter than I have been in 10 years (still much more to go). My bmi suggests I’m obese but due to muscle mass differences I’m not; I’m overweight but not obese.

My point is if you want to get to 120 because you want to and this is the healthy weight for YOUR body then go for it.

I’ve lost 26kg in 4 months by simply eating whole foods, concentrating on protein and low sugar and slowly building up my exercise volume and intensity.

Love yourself always.

Good luck. You’ve got this!

i have been intermittent fasting for more than six months now (starting BMI = 32, today at 24.5). believe me, the longer you stay on it, the easier it becomes. if you want to see a few more details, look at my diary pages (Flyer's diary). IF and Keto dieting are similar, but in Keto you want to simulate a fasting metabolism constantly by nearly eliminating carbs and keeping a low insulin to glucagon ratio. i found intermittent fasting easier in that i don't really limit carbs (most days). i do severely limit sugar, though. it isn't easy as almost all processed foods have added sugar, but i have managed to keep it in the range of 6-8gm / day.

keep it up as you have definitely hit on the only smart way to lose weight and keep it off.

Hi, yoyoer & welcome to the forum. I have only just started on IF so can't give you any advice on it yet. I do know, from past experience, that fast weight loss through fad diets & severe calorie restriction is not sustainable. I'm now trying IF as the science seems to be there that it is good for your overall health. Try not to be in too much of a hurry to lose & make sure you are getting the nutrients you need. I lost a lot of weight quickly 12 years ago & I really struggle to keep it off.
