20 lbs overweight should I be taking Protein Shake?

I'm currently around 20 lbs overweight. My main goal is to loose the 20 lbs and then grow muscle.

I'm currently doing Cardio HIIT and Weights. Is it OK for me to be taking a protein shake after the workout? If yes, how much protein should I take? The current dosage is 48g and I weigh 185.

just drinking a protien shake isnt going to make a difference. you have to look at your diet as a whole. how many calories do you take in per day? what is the macro breakdown? basically, if the shake fits into your caloric needs then go for it, if you can get all of your nutrients from actual food.
 
protein is just food man. if you need a shake to hit your daily calorie and macronutrient goals, then yeah, have the shake.

if it puts you over your limit, then have a half shake or skip it.
