2 kinda strange running questions

Okay, I wasn't really sure were to post this, but they both pertain to running so here it goes.

1) Once I get home after I run on the treadmill at the gym, I can feel tiny muscle twitches/pulses/something in my legs for a good 10-15 mins, sometimes more. It doesn't always happen, but it happens quite a lot. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience it? I'm not in the greatest shape, but I'm not horribly out of shape either. It doesn't hurt or annoy me really, I'm just curious as to why it happens.

2) When my mom runs on the treadmill she'll get a really bad headache afterwards, sometimes lasting 2 or 3 days, which prevents her from working out on those days as well. She drinks plenty of water, and has no problems walking on the treadmill, and is in rather good shape. Any idea what could be causing these headaches?

Thanks!

The first sounds like involuntary muscle spasms. It's no big deal. Lot's of people get it.

Not sure about your mum. Maybe she should use the bike.

I get those twitches when I run for more than 40 minutes... but I get them sometimes if I run really fast too... They are normal...

The headache is a bad thing... and she really should see a doctor about that... and it could be she is over doing it... getting the HR up too high... or her BP could be going through the roof... who knows... it isn't ok and a doctor should be consulted.. .IMHO

I get the muscle spasms too sometimes. Stretching helps but doesn't eliminate them. They go away, though and I get them less the better shape I'm in.

Headaches sound like dehydration, but you said she's drinking a lot. Hmmm..better ask her doctor.

She should see a doctor at the soonest possible time. This could be a sign of a clot in an artery some where in her brain.

stretch lots before and after running (and during if you run longer than an hour) for the spasms. it's pretty normal, though i sometimes get the spasms in the middle of the night!

get your mum to drink isotonic sports drinks (powerade/gatorade/lucozade sport) rather than water - this will replace the salts and sugars she sweats out. see a doctor if the headaches persist.

Agree - though suggest see doctor first. I used to get headaches consistently after running in hot weather. They "went away" when I began getting plenty of water and electrolytes while running. Formerly, I would just sip water and take one electrolyte pill per hour (Electrolyte Stamina Tabs).

But of course headaches, like bleeding, can have a zillion causes.
