2,000 cals a day

Hi,

Age: 16
Gender: Male
Weight: About 256
Height: 6'1

So my question, I was told by someone on the forum (CoachCrimson) that I should eat 2,000 cals a day MIN and about 2,500 MAX. Because of my weight,height,gender, and age. I wanted to know if that was a right amount of cals a day, and if I should down size on them after a certain weight i reach...

As for exercise, about 3 times a day

Example like today:
Morning: In-line skating, 45 mins
Afternoon: 10 mins lifting weights, 15 mins power walk, 15 mins sit-ups
Evening: going to probally skate again for 45 mins.

Since you are still a growing boy :)D), I think its wise for you maintain that calorie level, for growth and development as well as daily maintainenace.

With the exercise, if you like exercising 3 times a day, be my guest. I prefer quanity over quality. I only spend like an hour or two exercising, but I gaurantee you I am really pushing myself for those sessions. No pain no gain is still a valuable motto I adhere too :)

Also, it may help to use a good BMI calculator (such as ) to calculate your BMR.

Like I said, you are still growing, so your body still need all those macronutrients to function normally.

At your age, I think the hardest thing I had a problem to was sticking to the exercise. Make it a routine to exercise everyday, kind of like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. If you make it a habit, and try to do it every day, you will lose the weight. Personally, I would exercise for a week, didn't see the results I wanted and ended back up into the sedentary life style again. Trust me and listen to me, I have lots of experience ;)
 
Haha, sweet! thanks for replying, and yes I know you are far more experinced, I am new to this and open to ideas, thoughts, and tips from experinced adults. Thanks for the advice, if there is anything else you'd like to share i'd be happy..or if you wanna check out my diary to see what I eat and you can tell me if I'm eating healthy or not! I just wanted to know if my calorie in-take was healthy or not.
 
i do 2000 cals a day from day one of my diet. i started at 274 and i was down to 210 until the holiday season. 200 grams of carbs and protien and 44 grams of good fats 38 grams of fiber.
 
an active hobby is the best way to stay fit, if you enjoy it it will be easier to stick to, you'd be suprised how much progress without "work" you'll get just be adhering to calories, and having fun doing what you like
 
At your present physique, 2000 is probably perfect.
