15yo seeking help

Hey guys,

I'm 15 and reside in Australia i am an active sportsman playing football for at least 30 minutes a day. + walking everywhere specially at school and running a lot in PE. Now here's my problem that I'm willing to admit

I don't eat healthy and i know that it isn't right yet it seems to be rather difficult for me to party my ways. Ever since i was young i wasn't really a fan of vegetables or fruit in general and still am not. I'm 15 about 71kg and about 180cm but my fruit/vegetable intake is probably below the bare minimum for a daily diet. I also drink way to much soft drink and eat way too much crap as i've noticed because when i don't my face doesn't build up with acne and crap. But when i take psylium husk my skin clears probably due to the cleansing of my colon and the gutting of the junk food from my body. So i am getting worried that me being a stubborn eater is going to effect my longevity of life and have rather adverse effects on my body.

So the first thing i need to do is approach my diet then secondly i want to help put on some muscle and get fitter in terms of sprinting and lasting longer eg how to hydrate well enough before my football games (soccer) and just in general how to maintain my body at a healthy standard for a 15yo male.

This is a picture of me below sorry if i look skinny for some reason my body prefers not to deposit fat due to my high metabolism as well as my everyday sporting commitments.

So can you members of Fitness.com help me change my bag habits and help me get fitter healthier and stronger?

Cheers Brenton

Hey mate, well first off, welcome to the forum and good to welcome another aussie

I am very similiar to you, were i didnt eat healthy, no fruits at all a small portion of vegies, alot of deep fried foods, and alot of soft drink. i too have suffered from acne and all that jazz. now my matabolism i salso very very fast and despite that i didnt eat healthy i didnt put on any or much fat.

To put on the muscle you need to eat heaps, and though eating heaps of yucky stuff for you will help you put on weight it wont be so attractive from my personal experiences. last year i managed to put on 10 kgs and i look bigger with my shirt on and stuff, and all i did was eat everything and anything, mainly not healthy, however wen i took my shirt off, sure you could see i was bigger and that, but i had very little tone or definition, i didnt get that 6 pack abs i was after.

i got lazy this year and lost those 10 kgs, but recently i have started eating heaps and working out again. ive managed to put on approx 2 kgs at the moment, and i am eating heaps of healthy stuff this time. now i am fussy with the fruits and vegies i eat and find it hard to find stuff i like. my suggestion i would make hear is, try stuff, even though you might have already tried them previously, i found that taste can change. in the past i wouldnt of eaten the stuff i am now, and couldnt imagine myself doing it either, but i sucked it up and gave it a try, and though i still dont like some stuff i am finding new things for me being able to eat.

So what im guessing what i am trying to say is try things, even if u think you dont like them, give them a second chance and you may actually like them now. or perhaps try different ways of having fruits and stuff, smoothies etc.

I have found my skin is alot clearier no and my stomach as gotten alot firmer and tighter. umm i am not sure bout fitness for soccer however.

Hope this healps and if you want to know what i am eating now or suggestion on how i have made the foods i dont like into foods i do like by all means pm me

sorry if i look skinny

Appology accepted ;)

Your metabolism is just high because you're 15 and active, use that to your advantage. If you eat more you'll still gain weight if that's what you want to do

Read the following on training and click on the nutrition link as well, it's gold dust and needs to be read for basic education before you start

Looking at what you've written; your diet sounds like most teenage boys. At your age you can get away with eating like that a lot but you'd definately improve your general well being if you cleaned up your diet a little. It also helps to start eating well at a young age to get you into good habit early.

I have no specific secrets or tips to give you to help you eat right and train but something that has helped me is to find something you like more than burgers and coke and focus on that every day to stop yourself from straying too often

Thanks for all the informative posts guys it helps dearly. I think i will try some new fruits and vegies tomorrow and break the mental barrier now before it starts having adverse effects on my body and well being. I would love to build up a extremely healthy fitness and a toned muscular body it's so dam annoying going to the beach and me being able to see my chest because i lack muscle and fat to cover that section!

Cheers Brenton
