Sport 1500 cal/ day diet....

Sport Fitness
I started on the bowflex workout/diet. The diet consists of 1500 cal per day. I am wondering how much weight I will lose if I follow this. I weigh 240 lbs and exercise at a moderate level.

Thats TOO FEW calories for a person your size. You will hinder your progress by eating such a small amount. You cant lose weight if you dont eat enough. How many calories do you currently eat? Off the top of my head I am going to say you need at least 2500 (that is not knowing any direct info).

Ditto bro, way to few calories. If you come across a diet program that tells a blanket population to eat X amount of calories, throw it out! Each of us are metabolically unique and have different needs when it comes to fat loss. For some 1500 calories may be maintenance level, and for others, it could be starvation!

I recommend finding a good calorie calculator online and calculating your BMR and going from there.

I was thinking 1500 was low... I have no idea what I ate previously...

B'fast.. 2eggs, 2toast( body wise with marg ), water
Lunch ... varies... sometimes fast food...
Supper 2 potatoes ( baked with marg ), cup of veggies, a chicken breast or a steak

I looked at the cal of a chicken breast.. and it was 650...

My BMR is 2135.... so I guess 1500 is not ridiculously low.... this is my second day on the diet and I wasn't hungry yesterday.... I'll give it a hook for the 6 weeks and see what happens. The average weight loss is 28lbs over the 6 week period.

But that chicken breast also contains no carbs and over 50g of protein!

BMR is how many calories you'd burn by doing absolutely NOTHING during the course of a day. You need to be above to really achieve results safely and effectively.

You need to try eating 5-8 times daily, and if done right will give you around 2500+ calories of good food. You want to lose 28lbs of fat, not a combo of fat and muslce.

Yes, BMR is not what you need to go off of. You first find your BMR then you add an activity factor. 1500 calories is ver low for a man your size.

Are you a bloke?

1500 calories for a few months is going to land you in a real pickle.

I'd say shoot for no lower than 2000 man, especially if you are going to be working out/exercising. After all, you need to burn fuel to run your body, and food is just that - fuel.

But its not just about that.

There is a big difference on the effect to your body of consuming 2500 calories a day in egg whites, nuts, seeds, fruit, veg and chicken/fish, and say 2500 calories from soda, candy, pizza, chips etc. etc.

It's not just the calories its what the food is made up of also.
