13 year old

ok im a 13 about to turn 14 on the 23rd year old boy that is around 5'11- 6'0 and weighs about 200lbs. i am wondering what i should do to lose weight around the stomach and workout my arms neck and shoulders. Now a couple of years ago i met "The Rock" and his personel trainer i think on my bday. Him and his personal trainer said that i should startes=d working out around 13 and 14. I beleive he mentioned that lifting weights would be good for because of my height and weight. But i dont know if this is true or not. I think it would be true because it is frome someone that has experience. OK well right now i have some dumbells and thats about it. But im willing to buy other things if needed. So can someone give me a relible workout schedule please?

Am not sure I am able to give a schedule, but I can point at the kind of exercises you should be looking at.

Aerobic exercise does help burn fat including the layers of fat on the stomach. After the fat on the stomach is lost, a toned stomach can be achieved very quickly by using the best exercises that place direct stress on the stomach muscles.

Crunches do very well in helping to flatten the stomach. A combination of crunches, reverse crunches, sit ups, side bends, side crunches, trunk rotations and standing twists works even better. It is important to exercise the side of the stomach as well as the front abs.

Another vital part of exercise regimes that help flatten the stomach is cardio workouts. These if done correctly increase the body’s metabolism. That means the body is less likely to store any excess calories as body fat since the elevated metabolism gets rid of the excess calories.

All the best.

Cathy.

cause your so young make sure you eat well and do exersize EVERY day , try joining like a football team or somthing :)
good luck

Nah waterpolo is much easier if you are beginning to lift for the first time and want to get fit. If you get into football, you risk getting left behind or seriously injured from the more experienced guys. Sports like waterpolo have guys starting out pretty much with a level playing field. And it's still really tough as a sport. That or perhaps wrestling.

football isn't the best sport to start on (thats supposing you meant the american word, football. In england we call soccer football). Just remember the 3..cardio, diet, and weight training. At 13, weight training is definately something you chose whether you want to do. Waterpolo sounds like a good sport. Swimming is also a brilliant starting off sport.

It gets tiring people saying 'youre wayy too young to start thinking about fitness'. You should be able to start when you want. I've never seen anyone under 12/13 taking an interest in weight training anyway.

At your age it is VERY VERY VERY important to watch what you're doing... I'd stay away from free weights for a couple months... stick to more bodyweight and/or machine exercises and focus on proper form... because if you don't, you're going to teach yourself bad habits and can cause injuries later on in life...

You mainly need to watch what you eat... Don't get me wrong, I want you to eat whatever you need since you're growing and stuff, BUT no candies, pop, ice cream, fast food, etc... try to eat things like chicken/tuna/turkey instead of hamburger/steak/ham, etc...

But at your age you don't want to make it "work".. so like what ever one else recommended, join a sport... I was a little butter ball when I was in Kindergarden to 7th grade (went to a catholic grade school where there were no sports)... I joined 4 sports when I went to a public school and lost alot of weight... some of the sports I sucked at, but I still stuck with them...

I don't think that water polo is any better than football as a starting sport - water polo is a pretty vicious game. Wrestling is a great sport that can get you in amazing shape, but it's also a sport that tends to have anorexic (or other eating disorders) members who try to make weight.

As someone earlier said, swimming is great. Personally, I started with soccer, but I now play basketball and tennis. When it comes to sports, just pick what sounds fun - I always loved sports but my brother wasn't as into them until he found martial arts. Whatever works for you works.

Waterpolo has the same viciousness as football, but you're got going to have many permanent injuries or complications. As for the wrestling thing, it all depends on the person.

I also started with swimming, but it gets monotonous and boring. Plus there's no real connection with your "team-mates"...atleast not in my case. You just get in the pool and do your own thing. Yawnizzle.

Actually, I think football is a great starting sport...

of the big 4 american sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) it takes less "acquired" skill to excel in football as it does the other 3. Sure you can get injured, but you can get hurt doing anything. At 13 years old, you are at a perfect age (and weight) to start. Put on a little weight, you could be a starting varsity defensive end or outside linebacker by the time your a junior.

At 13-14 it would be irresponsible for anyone to give you a workout schedule long distance. I have trained my son (now 14) for two years. There is no reason not to lift free weights and many reasons to start. Find someone in your area that coaches Olympic lifting. Spend some time with them and learn the two O lifts and the supporting lifts they use. Nothing will help you gain size, strength, or speed faster. Spend some time doing pull ups, push ups, air squats. Stay away from machines they are fairly worthless when trying to gain real world functional strength. Good luck

tnx aevans !! and yeah i agree garddawg just when u du ur weights make sure u have a trainer or someone to show ya how to do it!!!
good luck
