Oh yeah, Im 5' 7" :D

Thanks.

Manshu, the diet you are on is harmful. I have some guidelines saved in my computer at my office that I can email to you. Will you PM your email address to me? I will send them to you in the morning, and then explain what it all means. I know that it can be frustrating to be overweight, but stop and be very rational and lucid and take a few things into mind. It took more than a year for this condition to appear on your body, no? It will take more than a few weeks on a starvation diet to get back there. You need to gather some information and prepare for a complete paradigm shift. Lets take a thinking approach to this problem. The first thing you need to do is quit judging yourself. Lets chat a little and figure out what your goals are. By doing so, you are setting up goals you can't hope to attain, under conditions which prevent them. Set some realistic goals that combine good training with good nutrtition. You want to have a hard, developed body, right? You have to feed the muscles so they can become stronger. We will help set up a nutritional program that will really work for you, gradually helping reduce bodyfat, and keeping you feeling good while you do it.

I will email you a program tomorrow.

hey, Il PM you now..

I appreaciate all your help guys, this helps me a lot.

Im really wanting to loose some weight

tenkst,
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the only reason that you are still keeping your weight down is because you've finally hit puberty and your metabolism has reached it's peak. The 'starvation mode', as you mentioned, is very unhealthy, but also ineffective. For people old enough to have some knowledge on the subject, know that it is not a permanent solution. The end result is that you will in fact gain more weight because when you do start to eat again, your body stores the food thinking that it's going to go into starvation mode again, soon ...

I realize that its unhealthy to starve yourself.. but I did it for about a day (I did eat a little) and got 3 pounds off!

First, muscle requires nurtients to survive in the human body. Muscle speeds up the overall metabolic rate of the human body, thus burning more calories. To build more muscle to burn more calories you are going to have to consume more calories than your normal daily caloric intake in order to gain weight, in turn gaining muscle mass. Also, you will not be able to lift to your potential by starving yourself. Not lifting to your potential means little or no strength gains, which means little or no muscle mass added, which means you are still not going to have the muscular, defined body you desire. You have to have muscle to appear defined. Without eating you will have little muscle.

Muscle consumes vast amount of nutrients. The body is an efficient machine, this means the body will burn the muscle as energy to rid itself of this major consumer of nutrients (this is part of the starvation mode JP was explaining to you earlier in this post).

METABOLIC RATE- It is a well known fact that eating every 2-3 hours speeds up the metabolism. Not eating slows your metabolism down and switches the body over to a mode where it stores, nevermind this has all been posted before by JP so I will not go any further.

You are doing yourself no good. I, as well as others have advised you against this practice. However, you have a 15 year who can barely grasp the basic concept of spelling that agrees with you. This is up to you who you listen to. However you have been warned...

Scott, I am totally listening to you. I was just seeing if I could loose any weight by starving.

But I have started eating healty, and exercising everyday, running about 30 minutes, 30 situps, pushups, pullups..

And I ride by bike for about an hour each day. :)

Genius.. are you advicing Manshu to eat more and build muscles... I may be wrong and correct me if I am. Manshu is mainly looking at loosing some weight. So HIIT cardio will be the best bet for Manshu right now.

Manshu..
Moreover you are only 13. You should wait before you start on weight training.

I suggest you also meets up a nutritionist to make up a diet chart for yourself. You are in school I would assume. Certain nutrients play a vital role in stimulating the activity of the brain and that is required for you right now.

Did you not read anything I posted? Muscle regulates the bodies metabolism, thus burning more fat. The thing to be conerned about is body fat percentage and inches. Gaining muscle will help Manshu lose fat at a quicker pace than he was before.

Also, eating 5-6 small meals a day helps speed up the bodies metabolism, but, of course this has been mentioned a million times before so I will fail to detail any further on this point.

This is not advice I would JUST recommend to someone that is trying to pack on serious muscle mass, this is advice I would recommend to almost EVERYONE. More muscle=more fat loss. Eating 5-6 small meals a day means a faster metabolim which in turn also means more fat loss. I did not read into his goals as much as I should. I believe I was busy trying to patch the hole Tenkst was attempting to create. Either way, packing on muscle helps to burn fat, so either way gaining muscle would be the smart thing to do at this point.

HIIT would be the best for Manshu right now? Eh, OBJECTION! I would not recommend someone extremely overweight to go out and do sprints or other HIIT. I believe a gradually increasing intensity and distance cardio program would be the best for Manshu. Doing HIIT cardio at too early of a stage is a recipe for disaster (the risk of injury is extremely high).

Daisy,
What part of the body burns fuel? Muscle of course. What happens if you have higher muscle mass? You have a bigger engine which consumes MORE fuel. That is why having more muscle means having a higher metabolism.

And cardio? Yeah, there is some benefit, but lets take a look at athletes... the ULTIMATE cardio athletes are marathon runners. Now, some people may like looking like prison-camp survivors, but personally I don't. If just doing a bunch of cardio is that great, then why don't you see any really buff, sinewy long distance runners? Sprinters on the other hand look fantastic. They are sinewy and lean. They look like ideal male bodys in the classical sense. Guess what the biggest component of their workout is? Pushing the anaerobic threshold with short bursts of instensity and speed.

Another myth that you brought up is that obese people eat too much and need to eat LESS, not MORE. Probably more important than anything while you are trying to lose bodyfat is making sure you don't go more than 3 hours without eating. This keeps your metabolism constantly working. Probably more important when it comes to dropping bodyfat is preventing huge drops in blood sugar levels, followed by massive spikes. Common knowledge to any [good] trainer is that you must eat several small meals a day as opposed to 1-3 bigger meals.

Seems like you are aware of this though, considering your diet. Aren't you the person whose diet I critiqued on another thread? It was a pretty good diet as I remember, and you were eating low GI carbs, and frequent meals. That is pretty much the gist of what Genius is suggesting.

Also, the anger that Genius was displaying was not against Manshu, but Tenkst, who posted on this thread, whose posts no longer appear anywhere because I banned him and pruned all of his posts.

Genius and JP... Yes I am getting the point that you guys are trying to make. I agree with what Maximum fitness posted. I just have one concern though regarging your ( JP and genius's) posts. Would you want to have someone as young as Manshu to start weight training? If you think it's right may be illustrate a little bit on that. My knowledge is mainly by reading articles on the web that says it's not right for young people.

I agree with the food part with JP and genius though. I meant meet up a nutritionist(not a dietician) who will pick up the right food for you spaced at the right intervals with the proper calories to get you through the day. I would not advice someone to do something that I myself don't and i.e starving. There are plenty of factors to consider what you choose to eat at what time. Moreover as I pointed out earlier there are certain nutrients that stimulates the brain and that is important for school goers. A nutritionist will be a help here.

I don't know what your definitions are but Dieticians for me are the villains who force you not to eat and nutritionists are the angels who tell you, you require 2200 cal to go through the day and this is how you can do it

Best luck Manshu

:D
