I challenge you to eat no fast food for 100 days.

You will accelerate your weight loss, and probably save some money as well, and (my #1 reason) you will get used to not eating it, so that you will probably not even want to eat fast food after the challenge is over.

Who's in?

I'm in, but it's cheating for me. Being celiac, there aren't a lot of fast food restaurants that cater to me, so i generally avoid them for months at at time, not out of will power, but because I have to.

hej allcdnboy! Good to hear that you join (even if you are cheating :p).

Even though I already started, I don't know what was my first day, so I will just start counting today.

Here is a more detailed plan of my own challenge (to anyone who wants to join, feel free to use these too, or make your own):

The rules:
- no fried food
- not any food from fast food restaurants and snack bars (except salads)
- no pizza (except for homemade pizza)

The most challenging moments:
- every evening (I am not used to cook for myself; I am starting to do that, but in the meantime I should also look for healthy foods that don't require cooking)
-
when I am tired/stressed and/or extremely hungry (I should take good care of myself, meaning I should try too sleep well, deal well with stress and I should eat enough. Losing weight requires a holistic approach)
- my holidays (10 days on Tenerife; getting fast food during holidays is easy)

The rewards:
- 100 euro to spend on sports equipment (I expect to save a similar amount by not going to fast food restaurants anymore, but making my own food instead)
-
losing extra weight (I estimate that this change alone can help me lose about 1 kg per month more (250 calories per day))
-
more energy, better health (it's called junk food for a reason)

Day 3. It's going well. I am sure that I will be able to do it.

It may sound weird, but I think the biggest obstacle now is not discipline (because I have plenty of motivation now to do this), it is remembering that I should not eat fast food. It has already happened a few times in the past, when I was doing a challenge like this one, that I forgot about it and suddenly found myself doing the thing that I was not supposed to do.

It is hard to prevent this from happening, but I think regularly writing in this diary is a useful way to stay conscious.

Yeah 100 at least. I actually have done this before. Fast food is a big part of why I gain weight. I have made some really really bad choices at drive thru windows

Awesome! Great to have you on board! :)

Will you reward yourself when you are done?

Btw, for me it is also at least 100 days. When I am done I will probably extend it to 6 months, and then I will decide whether or not I will extend it to a year. Fast food is also a big reason why I gained weight, and I see no benefit in allowing it any chance to creep back into my life.

Day 15 now. Yes I will reward myself but not with food. I will think about what that might be. Hmmmmm

Day 9. Yeah, I was a bit busy in the last days (but I didn't go to Burger King :p). But don't worry, I will keep updating this thread at least for 100 days. Good to hear that it's going well there! Yeah, food is not a good reward if you're trying to lose weight. Food is just fuel. Some things that I use as alternative rewards: getting a good cup of coffee (without milk/sugar) is something that I reward myself often with. I just bought a nice new monitor for my computer, to me that is also reward. And I reward myself with clothes and sports equipment for reaching certain weight milestones (every 2.5 kg) and for completing (part of) the 100 day challenges I am doing (like this one).

Day 19 is done
I had a big craving some fried chicken from the local grease shack today but fought through it without too much pain.

Ah... I ate some Lahmacun with a friend... I decided that it was not fast food, but I changed my mind, it is, and since I don't allow exceptions, I have to start over.

So, today is day 2 again.

No problemo. Will learn from this.

I didn't eat fast food this weekend but I ate too much regular food Sunday.
Let's just get up, dust ourselves off and press on!

Day 6. Now that I am thinking about it, I ate some small units of fried food at the conference where I was until yesterday, but it was so little that I won't count it (but I will try to prevent it from happening in the future). My main goal for this challenge is not to indulge in full portions of fast food. Anyways, I posted it here now (and I will post it if it happens again), so that if I change my mind I can start counting again from today.

Well done brawny, almost a month! :) Ha, don't worry about the quietness, I do read all your posts in this thread. Just taking my time to respond! ;)

Anyways, about overeating on regular food... it happens to me too every now and then, and I still think it's better than overeating on fast food. I can overeat on regular food and my body can still feel fine afterwards, while just one portion of fast food can mess up my health (not to the point of fully becoming sick, but about halfway between healthy and sick, which is bad enough).

12 days! Around the same level as when I slipped up. I went out with some friends, and there was the idea to eat fast food, but I told them right away that I did not eat fast food for at least 100 days as a challenge. But that they were free to eat whatever they wanted and that I would go with them (don't want to spoil their night), but that I would get some food elsewhere. So, I am glad that I am able to resist that temptation now.

Nice... more than a month brawny! Haha, they sure lose some income! ;)
