getting organised with starting fitness programme

Hi everyone -

I'm 40 years old, female, weighing 71kg at 5'8". I used to have a personal trainer and she was really good, and I was at my comfortable weight of 64kg. Since I stopped the personal trainer (my circumstances changed so I couldn't afford it anymore) my weight crept up over the months.

I'm having to take matters now into my own hands.

I am hoping someone can help me get organised.

Now that I'm looking to do my own programme myself, I have been doing yoga and powerwalking - 5 days a week usually one or the other. But, I'm not really losing weight, though I am still somewhat toned.

So, I've recently started some interval running 3 x a week - instead of the powerwalking - for 30 minutes followed by some form of yoga (totalling 1.5 hours) . But I know I need to fit in the weight training somewhere. The only reason I rarely do weight training on my own is because I actually don't really push myself in that area - something in me just doesn't want to be pushed with the weights (hence, having a personal trainer was really helpful). I'm happy and self-motivated enough with body weight exercises, but my question is: are those types of exercises helpful in strengthening/toning muscles and in keeping the the metabolism stoked while resting?

I'm having a hard time organising myself - so can someone please help?

I would like to get back down to my ideal of 64kg by June 30. Of course, going even lower (60-62kg) would be best.

I have 1.5 hours 3 x a week, and then 45-60 minutes twice a week.

Any recommendations?

Oh, the yoga I do is a vinyasa flow specifically for strengthening, toning and stretching, and also a kundalini yoga for my glands and hormones.

I'm happy to jig things around to make the most of the time I have, to be targetted in weight loss and toning, and get my fitness back to optimum for me.

Finally, is it reasonable to lose 6-10 kilos by June 30 with this kind of regime?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice and suggestions.

Bodyweight exercises are fine, but I prefer weights. A combination of weight training (including bodyweight), cardio and proper diet is all you need to lose those pesky kgs. And yes, there is plenty of time to get in shape by June 30.

Make the good health your path to great fitness program

Hi!
Marie you are getting to natural and somewhat right questions that whether your exercise or fitness plan will work for you or not.
Well, i am not going to argue on the advantages and disadvantages of different exercises but i want to direct your attention to the root factor of any fitness plan that many people mostly overlook. That point is your health factor. If you really want to make your fitness plan work for you then never ever forget your health factor. Move to a stronger fitness plan only with a stronger health. SO now you get my point that you need to be focused on your health too so you can go for a good fitness plan.
