Weighted gloves

My Turbo Jam sytem came with one-lb weighted gloves; whenever I use them, my hands aaaache !!!!

I am wondering if I should instead get wrist weights. Anyone ?

Its one pound. Thats like the equivalent of how much my lifting gloves weigh after 10 minutes of sweating. Throw them away

i don't understand why your hands ache. are they too tight? i have the same ones.

i also don't know why. :(

do you have them on too tight? i think the first time i used them my hands were a little uncomfortable after, but nothing i couldn't deal with. now i don't really feel anything. how long have you tried them for? if only once, then try to use them a couple more times and don't put them on too tight and hopefully it's just something you have to get used to.

I wore them several times, no I don't think that they were too tight. Oce I wore them with the weights facing out, and twice with them facing in.

I walk around with mine on sometimes around the house.

I dont know about my hands hurting, never felt that, but I dont like how the velcro is set because a part of the hard part is constantly scraping me...bad sewing for sure, I coulda done better...

try moving the sand around a bit and displacing the weight more to the top or bottom.

Weighted gloves, weighted ankle weights, etc are horrible on the joints and should not be used.

Not to be rude...but is this fact or opinion...

because I mean, walking is also bad for your joints...doesnt mean it isnt benefecial and also helps them in the long run and if done correctly.

So, altho I see how using weighted gloves and ankle weights can be detrimental I also see the benefits...I guess its all about perception. I am sure you can find several legitimate articles about how they are bad but on the contrary I am sure I can find several articles praising these gloves/weights.

Sorry...I just personally dont like random comments like that, they make people assume and people shouldnt assume you are right or wrong but should instead be careful in what they do...
EVERY workout program says before they start to consult a doctor prior to using the regimine and also if you start to feel pain TO STOP DOING IT....

so if the gloves hurt you...
stop using em.

then post the proof...I cant stand when people just expect me to believe what they say is true.

You can tell a kid all day long that the sky really isnt blue but they arent going to believe you until you tell them WHY and show them the proof of it...

So I am a stubborn kid...

Prove it.

This is fact, logic and I know from experience. Also - NY also shows us the proof as well.

Having a weight at the end of a limb is hard on the joints. When you walk you put momentum on the weight...where do you think that momentum transfers itself to when you force it back and forth to keep your balance? Muscles alone? The air? No...the bones and joints get the stress from this momentum. The thing is that when you put fixed weights on a limb, it's used in a very VERY repetitive manner. ie. Walking/running/punching bag...etc. Repetitive actions are known to make chronic issues appear. Add weights and you are in for trouble.

This is also why trainers will tell you to control your lifts and not put momentum in them because they lead to injury.

If you aren't convinced I can pull something up later.

Hope this was insightful, you stubborn little rascal :p

I don't state opinions as fact.

I'm sure there is a benefit. But at the cost of your joints doesn't seem like a fair trade off.

It wasn't a random comment. It was a comment directly related to the thread. It's up to the OP or anyone else if they want to heed what I say and do their own research or not.

"I can tell you with authority and finality that ankle weights used during aerobic exercise are contraindicated by most professional fitness associations as dangerous and unnecessary. They create a strain on the joints and don't add significantly to any calorie burn," says Peg Jordan, author of "Fitness: Theory & Practice" and editor of American Fitness Magazine, published by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

"Using ankle or wrist weights while running, walking or even cycling is a poor idea because the weight coupled with the already sizable force generated by the moving limb is likely to cause injury to the ligaments and tendons of one's joints," says Brian Day, an exercise physiologist and certified strength and conditioning specialist.

Improper use of such products can result in not only acute injuries, but also chronic overuse injuries such as tendinitis. A smarter and safer way to increase the intensity of cardiovascular exercise is to increase your pace or to train on terrain or a treadmill that has a slight grade. "Weight vests can be used safely to prepare athletes for events that require short bursts of speed, such as sprinters. But using a weighted vest for longer bouts of cardiovascular exercise places one at greater risk for both chronic and acute joint injury. An additional negative side effect is the potential for the vest to impede proper breathing and the body's natural cooling process," says Day.

Ankle and wrist weights can be used safely for the purpose of resistance or weight training.

I don't feel like taking the time to go searching down articles when you can if you don't believe me. If I tell you squats are beneficial for leg development or there is a difference between good fats and bad fats, do I need to drudge up articles?

Did your parents provide you the burden of proof in proving every color for everything in the sky and on land?

It's called argumentative.

Prove it.

I don't have to prove anything. Here read this.

Of course these are just the opinions of revered exercise experts.

A study or publication, I have not. But instead of risking what experts say can cause injury, do the damn exercise for an extra 2 minutes and burn the additional calories the weights would have added.

Although wearing weighted gloves and ankle weights is obviously a dumb thing to do; the gloves in question her are only 1lb in weight. Would such a tiny additional weight do much harm?
