Is shrimp soup Okay for breakfast?

I love shrimp soup and chicken soup especially in the morning and sometimes at night too. Will this work against me, since I'm trying to eat healthy and lose weight.

What exactly is in this shrimp soup? If its very low in calories you may want to add in some extras.

I would think its a bit low calorie by itself to serve as a breakfast. However if you add in some other foods you certainly can eat it whenever you want.

Is this a canned soup of some kind? Those are all LOADED with sodium, which is

1) Not very good for you
2) GUARANTEED to increase water retention and therefore the weight on the scale

If you're aware of it #2 won't be too big a deal, but if you worship your scale it'll throw your perception of your diet out of whack. I *think* excessive water retention can even mess us body fat measurements taken with calipers, but I'm not entirely positive.

As I recall, Gustavo is interested in losing weight.

Gustavo....wtf are you thinking? Soup for breakfast?? No. Dude, you need some solid protein, fiber and some healthy carbs. Save that soup for lunch or dinner...and take some plant sterols so it'll absorb that nasty cholesterol that shrimp & other crustraceans impart upon us.

I used to make a healthy soup to have as part of my diet....start with broth and add lots of vegetables....but try to keep it to non-starch vegetables (avoid potatoes). Carrots, celery, peas, ONIONS, scallions, garlic, tomato...even dice in some beans (protein, fiber) and then a few shrimp. Spice it up, maybe something creole or cajun.

For breakfast, try to stick with eggs, low-sugar oatmeal, fruits, yogurt, etc. Don't make breakfast about pleasure, think of it as nutrients that you add to your body as if it were a car.

Soup for breakfast:rolleyes:

Don't worry, I was only thinking about having it for breakfast that's why I posted this question on the forum. I used to eat a lot of soup b4 I started my workout program and I was just wondering if it had any room in my new "eggs-in-the-morning-protein-all-day" diet. I guess I'll have it for dinner every once in a while.

Shrimp has protein. Vegetables in the soup add fiber and other nutrients. If he adds beans and barley, that adds some protein, good carbs, and fiber, including soluble fiber that will reduce cholesterol absorbtion if that is a concern. Just don't put lots of salt in the soup, or use a cream base.

If the nutrients are more enjoyable to eat, that will make it easier to keep eating nutritious food.

Oh for the love of all things sacred....if you're gonna do it, do it right. After years of vigorous research, clinical trials and intense testing...it has been determined that the true breakfast of champions is....

...last nights pizza, heated or cold.

I think my greatest abstention was the "shrimp soup" for breakfast....it's like ice-cream for breakfast, a cigarette while jogging or watching Oprah; it's just not right.
