Narrow grip vs. wide grip dips

wide........

Wide is better for developing the chest. Be careful though. Going too wide puts a LOT of stress on your shoulders. If it's like that though, you may just want to do decline bench instead.

Going narrower puts more tension on your triceps. The same thing is true for any upper body pushing movement. Narrow incorporates triceps more...and wider incorporates shoulders and chest more because you give your arms less leverage in the movement.

Actually, It's less your grip width and more your body positioning. If you keep your body completely up right (parallel to the wall) your chest will activate less than if you "V" your body forward, bring your feet forward and your chest over your hands.

You'll need to activate your core. When you're in dip position (body totally upright) lean your torso slightly forward, and pull your legs slightly forward. You're body should look like a < (only not quite as pronounced).

It's challenging, and difficult to express without demonstration, I'm sure someone at your gym will know exactly how to demonstrate for you. Good luck!

Thanks. That actually makes sense, and I'm going to try that the next time I do dips.
