newb 'in a world of hell', needs help to get on track!

hey all,

This is my first post here and I must say that after reading some posts and seeing some pictures I am getting motivated! My situation is a tough one, which is why I've decided to actually open an account here and post!

Basically, most of my life has not met with such success, due to lack of motivation/depression/family issues etc etc... I was born with a naturally 'skinny fat' type. Last time I did a BF or BMI or whatever it was, had to of been about 7 years ago when I was 18, and the trainer measured me and then said this seems wierd but its around 40ish (40%?). With that in mind, I think my body (like the rest of my life) just didn't develop so well.

So now with that sad depressing story behind us, since I'm getting married soon and 'starting fresh' with a great gal, my goal is to perfect all aspects of myself, no matter the cost or pain! I feel that since motivation/consistency has always been a problem that if I am able to finally build and keep a solid routine for working out, it will probably be enough energy/goodness flowing in to me from the whole experience that I can then easily use the strength from this project, to help motivate and grow in mental/emotional areas as well!

I find it funny however, that yet with whatever is bad, there is good, and I'm often finding myself being an 'alpha male' as its called with my friends, but not consistently nor to the level I know CAN BE!

So lets get to the nitty gritty:

5"10 167lbs

I am horribly out of shape (skinny fat), I eat 1, maybe 2 meals a day, with a variety of everything (slow metabolism?). I always try to keep a healthier diet with whole wheat and low sugar.. I can barely push out 10 push ups! Also for the last several years me and my friends have been smokin too much grass, which has made us very lethargic.

Due to my low eating habits, I'm not fat but have lots of fat all over my body (except my super skinny forearms) definetly out of shape with well-below-average muscle mass (my doctor a few years back during the annual checkup told me I need to do back exercises... if the DOC told me that then....)

I don't know what to focus on, nor how to focus on it. And since I am messed up in sooo many ways, I am really worried about this project 'taking over my life' meaning everything I do is related to how it will affect performance. For example, keeping track of every calorie I take is not possible, as besides working with this, I'm also very busy with work/school/engagement life.

Anyways getting married is giving me a pool of strength to draw from, and I hope you awesome people here can help me get the FLIPPIN HECK OUT OF THIS HELL I'M IN!!! Once I can get myself under control physically, I'm already %50 there!

If it helps: my wife is also very into exercise, after we're married we are going to both motivate each other... However i think she is further along then I am so hopefully there will be some good posts to help me out!

thanks guys I really appreciate it!

p.s. the one time I worked out 5 tiems a week for 3 weeks a few years ago, I saw by the third week significant growth in triceps! As if new muscles never before seen suddenly grew!!! -- so I know its possible :D

I was thinking of you and other forum members and found this article, I added some things of my own (with permission), and would like you to read it in the ChillOut Log (COL):

Hello friend !
I am newbie at this site and i want t o make friend at this site
so please tell me about it so i can make friend more and more .

2UP, I started at age 38 with heart problems, and in less than one year, I can proudly go to the beach and I'm stronger than when I was your age, so, you CAN do this!

You MUST, however, resign yourself to the idea of planning/logging what you eat and what you do for excercise. You can't start your day without knowing what you are going to put in your mouth and why. You can't excercise efficiently without researching and planning what that workout will consist of SPECIFICALLY. Nutrition and excercise work with each other. Don't "wing it". Plan it.

See Chillen's sticky on Nutrition 101 as a great primer on how to get started on your plan.

You are young, and you are here, so you care. That's great. Better now than15 years from now. If you get serious about the PLAN, and set realistic, but high goals, you will be amazed at the gains you can make.

And knock off the "mood altering" items. You'll get all the high you need in the gym.
