Weights!

So, I've been browsing and reading up on some stuff on this forum for a couple weeks now and I got to thinking "I wonder what's the amount of weight that some women add to their weight lifting routine?" So! Out of curiosity how many of you can bench press like 160+? Or do squats with a crazy amount of weight?

I only wonder because...I usually surprise guys with what I use in my weight training sessions. LOL. Am I really beastly or look like a body builder? Nope! hahaha. Just lean-ish and athletic-ish. hahaha. So come on! I know I'm not the only one. I'll start. For squats I can do about 215-220 lbs. Anyone else? Or perhaps...lots more?

Man thats allot for a squat...i do 10 kg on my squats and yeah i amaze people but only from the fact of how weak i am lol

Personally, I don't exactly trust any numbers posted on the IntrAwArb lOlz!!!!111, and definitely not squat numbers.

You can't fake a deadlift (well, it's hardr to, anyway), so those are the numbers that I'm most interested in hearing about.

LOL. No. You can't fake a deadlift. But I'm 4'11, 20 and female. Deadlifts I'm not as good at I can do about 185 or so. =/ Feeling a little 'mannish' now! I think mostly because I was hoping there would more ladies out there that pumped a lot of iron. Perhaps not??? hahaha. But my squats are full and parallel. I don't know what quarter squats are. Hrm...LOL. I haven't started looking like a man yet and I've been doing this for maybe a year and a half now but I suppose if I keep going I will.

:D

Remember, there is nothing sexier than a woman lifting heavy weights!!! And anybody who says differently is just jealous! So celebrate your unique gift!

How do you qualify full squats? Full squats are where the back of the thigh makes contact with the back of the calf. A parallel squat is where the top of the thigh breaks parallel (perpendicular to the floor). Many (read: 99% of squatters) believe that they are "parallel squatting" because the femur is parallel, but this is not a parallel squat: it's a 1/4 squat.

The disparity between your deads and your squats would lead me to believe that you might not be squatting as deep as you think that you are.

You are right actually! I squat where my thigh is close to touching my calf but past 90 deg to the floor. So a parallel then? Parallel and a half. hah! I'm supposing the large weight gap in my deadlifts is due to the fact that I do not do them as often as I probably should to have a balanced weight lifting routine. I tend to lay off the deadlifts mostly because I find them a little difficult to do...OH. I realize that I wrote '155' instead of '185'. My mistake. Regardless, still a rather large margin. Is that bad?

But you know? Thanks for the extra info about the squatting. That gives me a good idea to improve and change up my leg routine a bit. I hadn't wanted this topic to be about my workout regimen...hahaha. Hey, it's aaall good. And well. I'll be getting to working on my deadlifts at any rate! :D But I am curious. Should I be able to do as much weight with a deadlift as I am when I squat? Or something closer with a 5-8 lb difference?

Typically conventional deadlifts will be stronger than your squats, considering that you are able to apply a greater amount of muscle in your DL's.

I'm having a little trouble picturing exactly how far it is that you're squatting down, considering that the point between the breaking of upper thigh parallel and the point of significant contact between your calf and the back of your thigh is a matter of an inch or two at most. Still, based on your height and numbers, you are easily one of the strongest women that I have ever encountered personally, and you are likely pound-for-pound stronger than the overwhelming majority of men on this board. You might want to consider powerlifting as a sport, because strength like that would easily land you competition wins if you're bench is even close to the numbers that you've posted about your DL and squat...

If we're all talking about the same things, of course.

So my squats are parallel but what I meant by 'parallel and half' was that I will occasionally do a full squat in the middle or end of my routine. We are talking about the same thing...I have been told I should do powerlifting or some kind of competitive weight training before. haha Only, I have no real interest in doing that sort of thing. I'm more interested in competing in triathlons/running competitively! Or something not as vigorous and less 'painful' than the Tour de France. :D Good stuff!! Which is what I'm trying to train for right now but I'm not too sure how to go about doing that so...we shall see!!

You should check out sparrow's diary then - she competes in triathlons and that sort of thing.
