Weight training and weight loss help.

Let me introduce myself, i'm 17, i'm a tad bit overweight, and wanting to lose some weight and gain muscle. Last time I checked my BF, i was about 26% and weighing at 250, 6'2". I would like to shed a couple of pounds, not too much before football season, as well as increase muscles. I started training about last week, running for about 30 minutes, around 800 calories. Then bench, curl, and work on legs for the rest of the hour before my first class.

I was wondering what you guys suggest would be a good way to make my stomach smaller (should I be doing cardio for an hour rather than 30 mins?), and the best ways to increase muscle.

My diet is usually a packet of oatmeal before school, an apple and banana during lunch and some salad after school. That pretty much fills me up for the day. Any other tips for diet?

My friends told me a good way is to use protein or creatine, and i was wondering if there is any side affects to either and which you recommend.

I aint no expert but I few things to point out are:

1. do your cardio after your weights workout.....better yet do it on a separate day.
2. Try to do 3 full body workouts per week and cardio on a couple of days in between. Heaps of info on full body workouts on the forum. Also, make sure you get at least one days rest a week and get enough sleep each night.
3. Sounds like you are eating waaay too little. You need a lot more protein in your diet (chicken, fish eggs etc). You should try to eat 5-6 small meals a day all which contain protein. A whey protein supplement is a good way to get enough protein. Also HEAPS of info re diet on the forum.
4. You can't spot reduce fat. All you can do is work out and let the body decide where the fat comes from. Usually wherever the fat goes on first, it comes off last.

Not sure about the creatine thing. AFAIK it is a relatively new thing so long terms effects are yet to be determined. It is a very popular supplement however.

Good luck!

Your diet is horrific!!! Eat something!!

its hard, but I cut down on almost all of my food, I stopped drinking soda and fatty foods. I'm hungry during school most of the time, but I fight through the pain. I drink probably a gallon of water everyday. I'm just really dedicated to losing weight.

I went with JTM workout idea, ran for 45 minutes, 1200 calories, but didn't have time to lift. Oh and I ordered a tub of protein and creatine yesterday, it should be coming in sometime within the week (hopefully it helps). Ill update my progress later.

Thanks for the help guys!
