Anyone ever have an 'off day' when working out?

Yesterday I went to the gym and I really didn't feel like working out for some reason, possibly not enough sleep the night before / lack of energy etc.

I did workout, but I only seemed to give 70% instead of 100%

Is this normal?

Does anyone else have these days?

i have them all the time 70% is better than0% just gve it yure all next time you wont fell so bad

I can't say that I ever feel like not exercising, no matter what time of the day, no matter of anything else - I am always happy to do any exercise.

Though on the very rare occasion, it does feel as though my muscles are just not up to the task on that day.
I think it's attributed to ongoing sleep deprivation maybe, as I don't think one night will make any difference at all.

I think most everyone has a day once in a while when they go to the gym and "it just ain't happening!". Even Arnold said he would have those days, and he and his buddies would leave and have a big nutritious feed, and be ready for the next day. Make sure you're not overtraining, that's usually a sign of just not feeling into it.

I had one of those days once. Especially when your back is tight, your sleepy, or your just not up to it. In fact, since I have a football camp next week I'm not gonna be able to lift that entire week so I'm maxing out today so can get a good start on Rippetoes program.

Totally normal. Occasionally, I just throw my hands up and try again the next day. Sleep, food, work...you can't always be 100%.

lol....yea i know what you mean. sometimes i just get through my workout barely. other times i feel like i have energy left to spare. either way, im glad i got the workout in.

I'm unfocused, slow, and apathetic constantly...

But I do what I have to do to get the job done. I'm not usually having fun, but work is work.

yeh i have loads of days, i have a pretty hard going job, so when i come back im pretty tired, hard to get me going to have a good workout!

There have been times where I worked out and I didn't feel like I wasn't giving it my all. This may sound goofy, but I tired working out with music playing. I try to listen to an artist that gets me pumped, and I guess that has some kind of psychological effect, but it works for me.

Completely agree. This happens to me too. Even if u go in there and decide to cut the amount of reps in time or put in a half arsed effort its better than nothing.

All the time workout music is the shiz for busting you through it though. Try and get a mix that cues you to get in the zone.

Music is definitely my saviour in the gym. When I really don't feel up to working out I do it anyway and find that around half way through I get into it.

I have at least one of those days every week, it's normally due to either my daughter or cat waking me up during the night before.

I try and use those days to try out something new, look into a few new lifts or lift variations and when a bad workout day comes try them out. It helps to have something fresh to do and as it's new you probably won't want to push yourself 100% because you'll need to focus more on form

I do at times. I just push as hard as I can, and usually I get as much done as always.

I gotta say, you can solve that cat problem real quick by putting the bugger outside. I love animals and all, but my cat only woke me up by whining once.

Ha, unfortunately she isn't the kind of cat that stays out all night. She was a rescue cat from an abusive home so now she's living with us she never lets us out of her site. She even sits in the bathroom and waits for me while I have a bath!

Sometimes, on those days where it's just not going good, I do what CCR says, I really mix it up. And sometimes I have a really great workout, and sometimes...well.....

As for the cat, we put ours downstairs and close it off when we sleep! She's a psycho when night falls for some reason!!
