So why is it you people dont get sore?

I keep reading on here that soreness is bad. Isnt soreness i sign that you worked your ass of in the gym? I have been lifting for 5 years and i always get sore after my workouts, and i always am happy when i get sore. I am happy to know my muscles are building and working. I give myself rest so i dont hurt myself. How is it you guys done get sore?! Do you not give it your all or something? Yeesh.

I think the answer to your question is recovery. I train extremely intensely..I've thrown up in the last two weeks. Once I couldn't get off the floor for half an hour after my strength training. However, I only experience mild soreness, and I believe that is the result of my pre, during, and post workout nutrition.

What exactly do you do for a workout? Be specific. Days and times. What does a day of eating generally look like for you? What is your approach to nutrition in and around the workout window? Can't really respond without more info.

I think it's also very dependent on the person. My nutrition is excellent, and I still get very sore. I don't think anyone has said soreness is bad, I just think they say soreness isn't necessarily the best way to judge how your workouts are going. I've seen members say you should know you kicked your own ass the second you leave the gym, instead of relying on how sore you are...

I get a little tight sometimes after a really hard workout, but the only time i get really sore is if i dont eat well...

I definitely don't consider being sore a bad thing, whenever I am starting up a new program or have been off for a while, I get pretty achy. However, after a while, I get a good, hard workout in and am tired out the next day, but not hurtin' - it just happens..

ah ok. I appreciate all the feedback and various responses. I generally stick with split routines which ofcourse will have something to do with it. I workout 6 days a week.Mon- lats, biceps, back tues- cardio and abs wed- chest, triceps, shoulders thurs-legs and abs friday- break sat-total body workout sun- cardio and abs. The only time i do not get sore is on saturday for my total body workout. On the other days, i do a very focused workout, and the next day i am almost always sore. I also eat well and im always watching my weight, i generally am between 160-165, not letting my weight get above or below. I also read in Men's Health that the term, " no pain, no gain" is entirely true, so thats why i decided to bring this topic up. oh, and lastly i have a cheat day on friday where i can eat one meal of whatever i want to stay motivated in..in case that adds any further insight to this topic.

Sounds like everything's good..assuming, as before, your nutrition around the workout window is good. One thing you might try is going from a 3-day split to a 2-day split. A 3-day split isn't really necessary unless you're a professional bodybuilder. You might find it helps with your recovery to drop down to only 4 days a week on a 2-day split.

Update: It honestly sounds a bit like you might be overtraining, to me. Just a thought.

when you aren't making gains, come back and tell us again how being sore is a good way to gauge how effective your workout was.

It honestly sounds a bit like you might be overtraining, to me. Just a thought. When I say a bit like, I mean A LOT like.

Also, I didn't notice earlier, but your setup is weird and goes against fundamental principles. If you're isolating muscles in a split they require a full week of rest..incorporating a full body routine in addition to your strange 5 day split isn't doing you any favors. I really recommend you switch to a 4-day split, with push/pull or upper/lower setups, with 3-4 days between a workout of each type.

4-day split is at the bottom.
