I'm Lost

Hi!! This is the first thread that I have done. I am new to this site. As of the firsyt of the year I went on a diet and was (am still) determined to lose weight. I went on the Atkins diet and have shed 87 pounds on my own. (I was not working out in any way) Well my weight loss has just stopped. So I joined Gold's Gym. The only problem is I have not idea what equipment to use. I am afraid I am gonna hurt myself because I don't know what I am doing. Can anyone help?

You should probably hire a personal trainer for a few sessions to show you the basics.

I was recently in this position. Don't be afraid to ask the gym staff. They don't want you to hurt yourself - its not going to do their business any good, so its in their interest to induct you and to guide you.

I started with cardio equipment (treadmill, exercise bike, crosstrainer) and weight/resistance machines. The staff gave me a 'programme' to start with, but I soon got bored with it, and took control of my own programme - splitting up days into 'cardio days' and into 'strength training days'. I added dumbbells, barbell, smith machine to my routine - one thing at a time. All those big muscly bodies in the freeweight section might look intimidating, but personally at my gym, I have been pleased to find how friendly they all are!

Ask the staff or hire a trainer - don't look stupid and hurt yourself by not doing so - also, try adding more variety to your routine, one or two things at a time.
