Can you believe that? You would think height has something to do with weight training, which brings me to my question.

Do taller people, in weight lifting, make gains faster then shorter people?
(I hope so, my dad is 6'6 and genetics should help me :) )

I don't know about dwarves and strength specifically, but Franco Columbu was 5'5" and pretty strong.

depends. a tall person has a longer way to bring a squat, a bench.. etc, so its not optimal to be tall for lifting big weights.
As for gains, all i know is that how "long" your muscles are makes a difference. Its something about where the muscles are attached or something. If you got long biceps you wont get that big peak you want o so bad, but its good for lifting serious weight.

Im assuming the a similar build here, ie width of shoulder etc etc:

If two people are starting out, or failry new to lifting you'll probably find the shorter of the two will be able to lift more than than taller. However, with enough time, and hard work, the taller person may be able overtake the shorter.

The taller person will most likely have more lean muscle mass on his frame, but still not be able to move as much weight. A lot of it comes down to the biomechanics of the body. Just think about bench: shorter arms would be eaiser to lock out than longer ones right?

Just because you're tall/short doen't mean you'll be strong or weak. But like I said if your lifting with friends you'll probably find the short and stalky guys are able to lift the most early on.

If that's true, then that makes me feel a lot better...I'm 6'3" and I've always felt like a wuss cuz my upper body movements have always lagged behind my pint sized friends...or so I thought

actually, taller people have a harder time looking muscular.

muscle looks better on a shorter frame.

despite popular belief most pro-bodybuilders are 6' or shorter...including arnold schwarzennager who's really more like 5'11" without shoes on.

Or one guy I met, Lee Priest

Lee is about 5'5" on a good day, and tips the scales during Olympia competition around 215lbs!
or Dexter Jackson, at 5'6" and 217lbs (I saw him the day I met Lee Priest, and I gotta say, I'm 5'9" and I was towering over Dexter, so I'd put him at maybe 5'5")

I would love to mention some tall body builders....but I can't think of any.
Oh wait, Lou Ferrigno! he claims he's 6'5", but other sources say 6'3". And we'll give Arnold the benefit of a doubt and say he's 6'1".

its doable, but I wouldn't say its easier for tall guys to make faster gains, and would say they need to gain more to look as good as a shorter guy, who's muscle peaks will just pop more.

The greatest weight lifter ever to come out of New Zealand who won an olympic gold was called precious Mc Kenzie. If anyone can find some info on him pm me!

one google search is all it takes man:

his email is at the bottom of the page. he looks kinda short to me judging from his waist height compared to that table...and that he's sitting on a dude's shoulders.

yeah thats little tarzan or something i saw a documentary on him hes a poor boy his father brutalised him made him do 1000 reps of exercise when he was something like 4-5 and probably gave him juice and beat his wife i feel sorry for that kid

I don't...not anymore, his life seems to be taking off, with his father out of the picture. That, or he's about to fade into obscurity.

I think your right.

"His father only allowed him to eat according to a strict diet, consisting of liquid nutrients, vegetables, and it is also alleged, though never substantiated, that he was given numerous anabolic steroids."

"
Richard was not allowed to own any toys, to socialize with other children his own age, and so had no friends until his father was jailed. Following the removal of Pavel from Richard's life, Richard was allowed to experience some of the normal aspects of life for children his age, including spending time with friends, the ability to eat foods like pizza, and enjoying video games. He continues to train, but at more moderate levels, and while still in excellent shape, does not possess the muscle definition he once had when training under his father.
"

i agree, i feel awefully sorry for this boy too... :(
