Each muscle group once a week versus...

Hi,

I noticed some people are doing 1 major muscle group a day, only working it out once a week.

Some of these people are doing up to seven sets per muscle group. But I only do 3 (just trying to burn flab, not proffesional)

Would it still be advisable to do 3sets per major muscle group once a week, or should I kick it up?

I'm still a bit confused, I hear about people saying if you dont wait 7 days youll destroy new muscle from your last workout. But at some point you lose the results from your workout if you dont train again soon enough.

Thanks,
Keith

It all depends on the intesity/volume of the workout. If you are training to gain muscle then i'd advise on a 6-7 day rest. Or you may choose to utlize light intensity full body workouts to attack fat which could mean less recovery time needed.

I suppose I'm training to gain muscle but only for the purpose of burning fat. The Idea being that I'm trying to cut down to my more natural physique, not that being a little buffer for summer would be out of the question :D .

I'm not sure what your criteria is for a "light intensity workout to attack fat" is, but yes I'm working all the major muscle groups, doing 3 sets each exercise with several exercises for each muscle group (i.e. bench press AND incline press or Crunches on a ball AND Seated Weighted Twists AND Pilates-type stuff.)

I do 6-8 reps till failure on the first two sets, then burnout on the last.

So far I've put 3 days of rest before working out a muscle group again, and usually alternate between legs/abs and chest/back/shoulders/arms on workout days.

I've been doing 20 minutes of cardio per workout, but plan to notch it up pending some more information.

Hope that helps clarify things,
Thanks,
Keith

Cardio

If your looking to burn fat, you should concentrate more on your cardio and less on your heavy workouts. If I was you, I would start swimming and running religiously. Also, get on a diet. Eat atleast four concise meals a day full of lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. This will help your metabolism speed up helping you burn more fat in a day.

Lifting heavy everyday will not help your body lose fat, it will only help you gain more muscle. If you want to get ripped, running and swimming is the only way to get you there.

huh?

An FBW 3x a week would be your best bet. Lift hard and as heavy as you can.
